A/N: so i've noticed that i seem to have lengthy paragraphs of dialogue but sadly, if you read them out loud, they take less than a minute. i don't know if the 'talkitiveness' bothers many people but there is some stuff at the bottom and it made me think. i'm a horrible world builder so i use the characters to do it, which isn't a good thing. just thought i'd mention that though...

When I got home, Mom was at the door glaring at me.
"What?" I asked.
"You skipped school."
"I was visiting Max."
"I thought I said you could see Max only if it didn't interfere with anything else."
"It's not like I've never skipped class before, jeez." I said, pushing past her and heading upstairs to my room.
I heard the door slam and then she grabbed my arm before I could make the turn.
"Don't you walk away from me, young man."
"Why are you being so uptight?"
"Because Max Taylor is a freak and I don't want you near him!"
I glared at my mom as she stared at me as well. I got this stare from her and I knew I wasn't going win, but I'd sure as hell try.
"My best friend is not a freak. He's a victim of a real life alien abduction. You don't know the horrible shit he's had to go through, what these aliens do to him on a daily basis. He's in a coma, for god's sake!"
"A coma?"
"Yeah. The aliens screwed him up so much that they caused him to just check out of life for a minute. So, yeah, I'm going to go visit my friend like I couldn't when he was first found because somebody didn't want me to catch alien spores! What if this had been me? Wouldn't you want Max to be there for me as much as I'm trying to be there for him? If I was abducted and came back pregnant, would you fight for me?"
"Of course I would."
"Then why did you say Max was a freak? Because that's how you really feel."
"Mars, you're turning it around on me like I'm the one at fault. You chose to skip school and I told you explicitly not to let what Max was going through mess with your schoolwork. You promised me that you'd abide by those rules, that you would try to be better with your attitude, and so far you've done fine, but you're getting way too involved in a problem that isn't yours... And yes, I'm still honestly afraid of what being around Max will do to you."
"He won't do anything to me because he's in a fucking coma."
"I meant the baby."
"I know that. But if Max had a different problem -a "real" problem- you'd be all for it. If Max had cancer or something, you would excuse my behavior as worry over my sick friend. Well guess what? Being impregnated by an alien race and having to let it grow inside of you is like being implanted with a parasite and being forced to let it eat you from the inside out. He is sick and suffering..."
Mom sighed and turned back around. "You just can't leave him alone... after all these years and it's still the same thing."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing, Mars..."
She walked back into the living room and I made a face after her but went upstairs.
********************************
That night as I slept, I had a really horrible dream and I woke up shaking, only I wasn't in my room. I looked around in confusion when the door opened and Max seemed to burst in the door. He looked at me in confusion as I stared back at him.
