The sunlight sifted through waving leaves and old branches. Lindelin was having a picnic with her family on the grassy beach where most people took their boats to sail. They were discussing the cruise trip the family planned for weeks ahead of time while munching on cucumber sandwiches she'd prepared with her mother. Her father told everyone what would be happening on the cruise.
He said passengers thought the trip was delightful and he had also taken a vacation on the Remarkable when he was only sixteen, with his parents. They heard tales of mouthwatering desserts and savory meals. The children grew more and more intent on making the trip, even Lin's younger brother, Niko, who found nothing exciting, was beginning to join in on daydreams of waking up to a room with a view over the infinite water.
Before Lin knew it, the picnic was devoured, and sadly, it was time to return home, away from the colorful scene of summer at Skyview Beach. Soon, she was back to her house, back to packing for a trip that was less than a week away. She strolled up to her sky blue painted door, courtesy of Niko's creativity, and inability to ask permission for anything.
