I stood in front of Phoenix and couldn't find the words to say what was running through my mind. I still have no idea what Phoenix is really involved in, but I'm afraid to ask anymore questions. I don't want to know more than what he's told me until he's ready to tell me. I sit there silently and he sighs loudly, then reaches to take my hands in his.

"I promise you that nothing is going to happen to you. I will fix this."

" What are you going to do?"

"Go to Dominic. Find out why in the hell I was rumored dead and how they got David to believe that."

"Why does any of that matter?"

"Because they dragged you into this. This is personal now. The issues between Landon, Dominic and I were strictly work related."

" Phoenix..."

" Raven this isn't about anything else except for keeping you safe."

I leaned forward and kissed Phoenix for the first time in seven months. His lips were frozen for a minute, and then the stress of the situation fell away. He pulled me into his lap and kissed me slowly, as if this was the first time he had kissed me. I drew back slowly and took his face in my hands.

"I'm safe with you. If you want me safe, don't leave to handle this without me."

"You have no idea who they are or what they're capable of."

"You're right, I don't. But what I do know is that I'm prepared to do anything to get you... well us, out of this."

"What are you saying..?"

"Exactly what it sounds like Phoenix."

"Rave, you wouldn't."

My eyes locked on his, and his face turned ghost white, knowing exactly what I was saying and that I meant it. His eyes searched mine and there was a look in his eyes that I'd never seen before. His hazel eyes turned a dark brown and he pressed his lips to my forehead.

"We leave in the morning."
