───── ⋆✩⋆ ─────Katherine eyed Klaus with uncertainty, as if he was going to lash out and bite her out of spite. It had been like this for the past few days—Katherine walking on eggshells around him, scared to say anything that could possibly cost her head flying off her shoulders. But at the same time, Katherine knew better; Klaus wouldn't have allowed her death to be swift and painless. If Klaus was truly angry, then he would've dragged it out. Made sure she was screaming, until metaphorical flames enveloped every single part of her body 'till she was nothing but a burnt husk of the person she used to be.
"You're very quiet," Klaus commented as he stirred his coffee, tapping the spoon against the rim of the cup. He turned to face Katherine, taking a thoughtful sip of the steaming coffee. "Odd, given your talents of manipulation. Something on your mind, Katerina?"
"I was just wondering when you were planning on telling Rory that you're not who she thinks you are," the words fly out of Katherine's mouth on their own accord. She can't bring herself to feel scared, despite that—Klaus was right; Katherine was good at manipulation. If she was going to be trapped in this apartment with the likes of him, then she might as well past the time.
Klaus' lips upturned into an unamused smile. "I hardly think that's any of your business,"
"Your phone's been going off. She's worried about you not answering her calls," Katherine continued to talk as he moved from the kitchen towards the living room. She spun her barstool around to face him. "It's weird. I was under the impression that you didn't care about anybody, yet here you are—asking questions about little Rory Gilbert like she was actually your girlfriend."
"I preferred it when your mouth was shut. Disregard my question from earlier and go back to staring in silence, mulling over your impending death," Klaus retorted snippily as he sat down on the couch.
Katherine rolled her eyes, but did as told. She had maxed out her annoying-Klaus-quota for the day. Klaus, however, turned over the phone he had in his hand. He unlocked the device, a message staring back at him. It was a simple statement, yet somehow he felt the sting of it like it reached through the screen and punched him across the face.
i'm worried about you... & i also kinda miss you.
Katherine examined Klaus' thoughtful expression from afar. He was clearly thinking about something, and judging by the way he was typing out a response on his phone, he was clearly texting someone back. Katherine leaned back against her elbows. It was weird to see him like this—like he actually cared about someone else's feelings besides his own. It made her a little envious, Katherine had to admit; even whilst Klaus was using her for her blood he had never bothered to even pretend to court her or take her feelings into account.
