The sun was setting as I flew low over Gotham City. This was the time of day when, from a distance you could almost believe that this wasn't the shit hole of a city it revealed itself to be in the light of day or dead of night. The streets were relatively quiet and I was almost ready to call it a night when my phone rang.
"Super Girl, what's your emergency?" I said into the phone, flying a little lower to get better reception.
"We've got major gang activity over in the East End." Commissioner Daniels replied. He was of only two people who ever called this phone.
"The regular kind or the Intergang kind?" I ask, turning towards the East End.
"Would I be calling you if it was the regular kind?" He asked with a very irritated tone. Most of the time I let him get away with being rude, being the police comissioner in a place like this can make you very irratable.
"I suppose not." I answered calmly. I hovered for a moment as I texted Mark to get me a more accurate location on the gang activity. Mark had some pretty fancy computer stuff set up at his place to help me track crime. He's a down right genius, especially with computer stuff. And it wasn't hard to convince his dad to foot the bill for the set up. I'm talking about Mark Wayne, by the way. Yeah, really. He texted back immediately with the location and sent the coordinates to my phones GPS. "I'm on my way there now." I said into the phone and then flew back above the skyline and started toward the East End.
"Good. Be warned that it's not just Intergang you have to deal with, there's an apartment building on fire with civilians inside. The fire crews can't get near it because of the hostiles. It's a big job so I put Silver Bullet on the scene too." Daniels explains to me. I groan outwardly. "I know you hate the guy, but even you can't put down hostiles and evac civilians at the same time, so you'll just have to deal for tonight." And with that he hangs up. To say that I hate Silver Bullet would be a massive understatement. He's a recent addition to the ever shrinking hero roster, super speed, a few good fighting moves and not much else. And he hits on me at every single opportunity. And I don't just mean that he flirts, he acts like we're a couple and has on multiple occasions shown up at a crime scene just because I'm there. But in a case like this, it'll be good to have a speedster on hand. I do a quick loop of the area before landing, the scene is only about two blocks from the free clinic, which will make the perfect spot to drop off the civilians. I throw myelf into a dive and lock on to large Intergang shape shifter. I build up an amount of speed and then when I'm only a few feet from the ground I pull back and punch him right in the jaw. He goes flying and hits a wall. I land and run over to him and pin him on the ground. I grab my rope from my belt, tear off a couple pieces and tie his wrists and ankles.
"You're in for it when I break free." He growls. I push his face into the pavement.
"Good luck buddy. That's industrial strength nylon shock cord." I place the rope back on my belt and scan the area. I pin point a few key targets and locate the burning building. There are several people leaning out the windows screaming. I start to make my way to building when suddenly a silver blur runs past my face.
"It's about time you showed up, darling." Silver Bullet says when he comes to a stop. True to his name he's wearing a silver costume and a silver TMNT style mask. I glare at him.
