Andie’s POV
Another hiatus week. I was barely getting out of my apartment and away from my computer. Lorne’s been sending me on dummy missions: writing different skits for Seth Meyers and Saturday Night Live, all while trying to pump out jokes and skits for The Tonight Show daily. The hiatus week was barely a hiatus though, I was doing a bit for SNL that was bound to be huge. I haven’t seen Jimmy in a while though. He hasn’t called me in days. My birthday was tomorrow and I’ve been trying to see my mom and little sisters for months, but I haven’t had the time to fly to Pittsburgh or pay for them to come here. Sasha’s been gone for the past few hours also. It was 6pm and I was getting pretty stressed. My birthday was tomorrow, I haven’t heard from family, or Jimmy, and I was getting antsy.
“Andie!” Sasha barged into the door with bags. “Get up, we’re going out.”
“Where? I have to send this skit to Colin by tonight.”
“Don’t worry about that, did you shower?” Sasha began dumping her Mac bag all across the kitchen table.
“Yeah,” I observed her. “A few minutes ago, what is happening right now?”
“I’m about to make you look hot so we can go out for your birthday. Is that okay?”
I slowly nodded. “Wait, I really can’t.”
“Come on, we’re gonna go down to the bar!”“The smelly bar your boyfriend works at? The last time we went there I got my butt grabbed a total of 5 times.”
She laughed and grabbed my hand. “I don’t want you to be alone tonight. You turn 23 at midnight for god’s sake.”
“I’ll be fine. Go have fun with your boyfriend. We can use all this crap you bought at Mac for the Emmys in a few months.”
“Alright, well I’m heading out now. Good luck with the skit.”
“Thanks Sash. Have fun!” I smiled before she shut the door and I sighed.
A few minutes later I was done with the skit and sent it to the SNL writing team. Now what? My birthday’s tomorrow and I’m in the house watching Hulu re-runs of skits I’ve written. I was watching one of the first shows where my stuff was used. Jimmy’s smile was infectious. I caught myself smiling and giggling simultaneously. I then heard my phone ringing. I ran across the room and grabbed it from my kitchen.
“Mom?” I answered.
“Sweetheart! Me and the girls are outside of your apartment, open up.”
“What?” I laughed. “No way.” I got up from the couch and opened the door to see my little sisters and my mom.
“Told you!” My mom hung up the phone and put it in her pocket.
“No way, how? When?” I gasped. Mackenzie and Macy pointed behind them and Jimmy walked behind them with a bouquet of flowers.
“We’ll leave you two alone.” My mom smiled and grabbed the girls’ hands and walked inside, closing the door behind them.
“These are for you.” He handed me the roses.
“You flew my mom and my little sisters in?” I asked, close to tears. “On my birthday?”
“Well, I figured you would be happy about that.” He chuckled. I pulled him in for a hug and cried on his shirt. I wonder how many of his shirts had my tears on them.
“Thank you.” I mumbled into his shirt, still crying. “Jimmy I don’t care anymore.”
“What do you mean?” He laughed.
“I want to be with you. I don’t care about anything, or anyone’s opinions anymore. You’re all I want.”
“You’re all I want too.” He grabbed both my hands. The roses fell to the ground.
“Well then what the hell are we waiting for?”
He pulled his phone from his pocket and opened his Twitter camera. He held it in front of us and I kissed his cheek. I watched as he wrote the caption:
“Happy Birthday @andiesawyer! Can’t wait to stay up all night with my girlfriend.”
“Well shit, I can’t wait to stay up all night with my boyfriend.” I smiled and he look up and smiled too. I was leaning against my door and his lips were inches from mine.
“I’m so happy I met you.” I felt his hands find their way to my waist.
I wrapped my arms around his neck. I couldn’t find the words to describe my joy. I was finally with my boyfriend. And not secretly. The world knew. Whatever happens in the morning, I know me and him were still gonna be together and nothing else mattered.
-
“We’re on the Today Show.” I sat in front of my tv the next morning shocked and somewhat annoyed.
“We’re on the fourth hour. It’s not that relevant.” Jimmy sat next to me on the floor with his waffles. My mom made breakfast for all of us.
“Of course Kathie Lee and Hoda would be so ready to bash us.”
“Hey, it’s all fine. They aren’t bashing us.” Jimmy smiled, kissing my cheek.
“Well, I mean what do you think? You think she’s in it for the money?” Perez Hilton asked Hoda.
“She’s a writer for The Tonight Show, head writer at that. I don’t think she needs money.”
“Well then I’m confused! Jimmy Fallon was a great family man, and even with his divorce he was still faithful to his wife.” Perez sighed.
“Fallon’s ex-wife has a boyfriend, she was spotted in The Hamptons with her and Jimmy’s daughter, Winnie and this mystery guy lots of times. I think Jimmy’s just been through a lot. The divorce was nasty and he barely made it. The guy found love and I think we should all let them live.” Kathie protested.
“Well I heard she was 23. Fallon’s 41 next year.” Hoda added.
“That’s the part that will have people wondering what the hell is Jimmy think-”
Jimmy turned the tv off and sighed. “Yeah let’s not watch this.”
