"Hurry!" Cat yelled to her friend as the rain started to pound faster onto the pavement.
"Im trying! But you can only run so fast in soaking wet converse!" Vivian cried. Finally, after a long awaited month, it was spring break. She couldn't wait to go down to the beach to Cats new beach house.
"Well maybe you should've worn something more dressy, like me. It is the last time you'll see Ryan for two weeks." Cat screamed over the thunder.
"Even then I would be wearing heels and it would still be hard for me to walk in the down pour." Vivian shouted. "Besides, we broke up last week, why do I need to impress him?" Vivian asked curiously.
"Because," cat answered " you always have to look good in front of your ex,its the golden rule in the break up book."
" You say that to everything!" Vivian half yelled half laughed. Vivian's black sneakers squeaked onto the tile floor as they walked into the old brick building. Both Vivian and Cat tracked in footprints of mud.
"I just want to get today over with, so I can go two weeks without seeing his face." Vivian saw sternly.
"We'll see how that goes." Cat chuckled as she turned left to her locker as Vivian turned right. "Today will be alright." Vivian kept whispering to herself as she made her way to her locker. But every step she took, she could feel his presence somewhere in the halls. Surely enough, he was. Just coming out of the locker rooms, hair still wet from the showers after swim practice. "Oh shit! He can't see me like this! Not all wet and gross!" Vivian thought to herself. The nearest place to go was the bathrooms. She nearly slipped into the blue and yellow tiled bathroom. She took a quick glance in the mirror and knew right away she looked horrible. Putting her book bag down on the floor, she took off her green navy colored jacket and started to wet a paper towel. She quickly blotted the bits of mud off of her face then took the hair elastic out of her soaked hair and started to run her fingers through it. A Maroon v-neck and light washed jeans was the fastest option she had today. She applied some last minute cherry Chapstick, then put her jacket into her bag and taking one more look in the mirror before exiting the bathroom. Cracking the door ajar to make sure Ryan was out of site, she slowly slipped out into the hall. She quickly walked to her locker hoping she would be able to avoid him all day. She started to slip her book bag into her locker and grabbed the few things she needed for her first block. As she started to close her locker, she noticed something. The smell of chlorine filled her locker. Ryan. Why would he have been over here? And what would he have been doing? Hundreds of more questions filled her mind. But before she could even think to try and answer them, the bell rang, indicating that she had 1 minute to get to class. She hurried down the hall to Mr. Loarks English classroom. The bell rang almost immediately after she took her seat in the back of the room. As Mr. Loark went on about their spring break assignment, Vivian thought about the chlorine sent in her locker. He knows my combination because of the secret Santa from four months back. But did he have a reason to be in her locker? Maybe I should ask him. NO! I promised myself I would avoid him all spring break. "What About you Ms. Long?" Mr. Loark asked looking directly into Vivians eyes.
" Sorry?" Vivian hesitantly stuttered, feeling her face starting to turn pink.
" I asked what book you are planning to read over the break?" Mr. Loark asked again, sounding a bit annoyed.
" Oh. Uh.... Maybe Romio and Juliet. I would have more time over the break to think about what message the author is trying to get across." Vivian said trying to sound certain of herself.
" Good choice!" Mr. Loark announced excitedly. " Just make sure to come up with a realistic reason next time your day dream in my class." He finished. I could feel myself turn more of a red this time, as I gave a little fake smile and slumped down in my seat.
