Chapter Four Connor's Motive's

Connor arrives at Wall Street a short while after leaving the address that he shares with his wife Lila. Whilst she had every confidence that he would get this job he certainly didn't think he would get the job for several reasons. One of them just happened to be his so-called sketchy life of moving from place to place with no reason for it.

Plus he had multiple arrests to his name when so-called women from his past constantly called the police on him. He just managed to convince he was innocent in the last case. The woman claimed she was telling the truth that he dated her purely to steal her money. It was obviously true but where Connor was concerned as long as the police didn't have any proof they can't prove his guilt.

Connor clearly didn't want this job but needs must because he needed this so-called relationship with Lila to work so that she would trust him implicitly. She already trusts him a lot already hence why she let him over the years transfer money between bank accounts but little did she know that little by little he was draining her accounts.

But truth be told money didn't matter to him anymore because she didn't store a lot in her bank accounts. She was always careful about anything electronically so she always dealt in cash. But in reality, all her cash is tied up in that so-called business of hers and getting this job was the only way he was going to do so.
He was playing the long game and he was in it for the long run.

It didn't matter to him how many years this was going to take but it would take as long as it will take until she trusts him completely and she gives him everything he's ever wanted without her knowing about it of course until its too late.

Trust was central in all this after all people are fallible.  He sits in a busy waiting room next to other potential candidates to the job and remembers what somebody once said to him, "Trust is earned and implicant trust is something you develop towards another person long after you trust them. He hears his name suddenly being called. "Connor Lewis, come and step into the office please."

A heavy overweight man holding a cigar was standing by the window of an ordinary office. He did not turn around nor did he say anything but just stares out the window.
Connor empties his throat. "Mr Black, Thank you so much for seeing me."

He finally turns around to face him. "Oh, I didn't bring you in here to talk about the job neither you or any of the other assholes are right for the job anyway, I know just by looking at you miserable lot."

He pushes a piece of paper that was stapled together with another piece of paper and slides that towards Connor. "I asked you I'm here to talk about this."
Connor splutters, "My resume? Sir I know there are lots of gaps but I can try to explain but I doubt you would ever believe me."

Mr Black half-smiles at him. "You're right, I wouldn't. My contacts told me about your interesting criminal record which is attached to that resume of yours there. You and I both know that somebody of your background doesn't belong in a company like this. Besides, you wouldn't know the first thing about business. Get the hell out of my office."

Later that day

Connor meets up in a local bar with his old Childhood friend and mutual ally Theo Watson. Theo is quite frankly the only guy that Connor trusts but more importantly the only human being that he trusts. He is the only one that truly knows about his past and doesn't bat an eyelid.

Theo sits down next to him with a beer for him and for himself also. "So How did the interview go?"
Connor sighs, "He took one look at my prison record and my so-called arrest complaints and threw me out."
Connor looks at Theo feeling slightly sorry for himself. "Do you remember how I said for the right girl I might go straight?"

He nodded. "But we both know that would never happen, You enjoy the buzz too much man."
Connor knew he was right about that. "Look the truth is, I think Lila is the right girl but the problem is the other part of me says the bitch deserves it."

Theo looks at him with his mousy brown hair and brown eyes and pushes his old brown specs up his nose. "Man, If you really feel like that then I feel you have two options, One, Tell her how you feel and about your past or Two do the freaking job and get out of there! I want my best friend back, I hate what this job is doing to you"

Connor takes a swig of his beer and hugs his friend. "I know man but with this one, I have to play the long game because I need her to know how much she hurt me so I get to hurt her ten times as harder."
