My Diamond

Onyx's POV

Two diamonds stood in the periwinkle room, one with peculiar expression while the other had the aura of a warrior. Citrine followed behind me, his mouth hanging open as his eyes widened.

He's....surprised, I think. I thought to myself, examining both his face and the Diamonds' faces.

Holly Blue made her way to us and put her hands behind our backs, softly pushing us as we walked closer to the Diamonds. "Do not speak unless you are spoken to and don't make a fool of yourselves or me," She whispered in our ears, a mix of soft and harsh tones blending in her voice.

I stayed silent as Citrine responded to her, causing him to receive a look that could have made a weaker gem crack on the spot. Hmm, he must have misheard her when she said not to talk. A mistake I shall not make.

Both Diamonds looked down at us, Blue staring intently. I glanced down at a Pearl standing next to Yellow, her complexion lighter than her master's. She met my gaze with an air of misled authority radiating from her. I looked back at the tall gems as Yellow started to speak:

"Holly, why do they look like that?" She asked, squinting her eyes to get a better look.

"They are prototypes, your most Lustrous. I'm sure if these suffice the next batch will come out better," Holly answered hurriedly, her hands shaking slightly.

Citrine made a soft noise from their conversation, his eyes narrow as he bit his lower lip. Is their conversation...hurting him? I wondered, not knowing at the moment that confusion was swirling in my mind. I heard my name and perked back up to the authorities talking.

"Of course you can take the Onyx," Blue told her sister. "Do you mind if I stay in this room? I have interest in the Citrine."

"Of course, Holly!" Yellow said with a commanding voice. "Take me to where you have been training the Onyx, I want to see her in action."

"Yes, your grace," Holly answered with a flourish. She made a sharp turn on her heels, whispered something once more to Citrine, then walked out of the room. "This way my diamond!"

I followed suit as I listened for Yellow Diamonds's footsteps, the patter of her pearl tracing behind us. Once we walked back into the corridor I heard the clanking of large boots, she was easily catching us.

Her, I quietly thought. Yellow's a her, I do not believe I can say the same for myself. I must not allow it to become a liability, if it is anyway.

Finally we made it to the familiar maroon door, the two carved swords making me itch for my own katana. A Jasper guarded the door but moved out of the way at the site of us passing. She managed to keep her composure as she saluted Holly Blue and glanced up at Yellow Diamond. I caught the faintest hint of her eyes widening and felt the corner of my lip twitch, but once again I ignored it.

Inside the room were metallic maroon walls with two doors lining the right wall. I knew that within each one were gems that were meant to test me, waiting unknowingly for their physical forms to be destroyed. Yellow Diamond looked around the room in a mix of approval and intrigue.

"Shall we begin?" Yellow asked, her commanding voice creating a slight tremble in Holly's hands.

"Of course, your most Gracious," Holly clapped her hands. "Onyx! Come."

I walked over to her and gave her my hand as I had done countless times before. She explained what she called my "soldier mode" to Yellow, applying pressure to my gem, the word "Pink" slipping from her mouth.

The familiar darkness enveloped me, the last thing I saw were three Rubies running towards me.

Time passed and I snapped back to consciousness, a red gem in my hand and a sword in the other. Yellow Diamond took the gem approvingly and turned to a grinning Holly Blue.

"That went rather well. It was recorded, right Pearl?" Yellow asked, looking over at her servant. I turned my head and watched her shake violently, a whimper escaping her lips when she noticed my gaze upon her. I cocked my head ever so slightly, trying to comprehend why she was acting so different than when we were in the room with the Citrine and Blue Diamond.

"Y-y-yes my diamond," she spluttered, her words barely audible. She raised her hand and a projection shone from her gem, the yellow screen increasing in size. A frozen image was plastered on the hologram, waiting for approval to be played. I looked at a frozen me standing tense and poised, ready for action.

"Start the recording," Yellow's voice rang out, and the video began.

For the first time in my life, I felt my eyes widen to the size of gemstones and I took a sharp inhale. For the first time, I felt a flare of terror.
