SCHOOL DAYS AND ALL

CHAPTER 5

The next morning dawned bright and clear. After breakfast the newcomers were taken to the principal Miss Dennis, where she told them their forms and houses. Iris sat between Carrie and Micky thinking hard. Carrie had been very hurt when Micky called Iris her best friend and sat with her arm around her.

Then Carrie started talking to another newcomer who sat on her other side. She was a slender girl with short golden curls, Her name was Isabella White. She had hazel brown eyes and a charming personality, She told Carrie about the teachers and students. "That is  Mam'zelle Mónet "she said, pointing to a woman at the next table. She had her chestnut brown hair in a bun and had a beautiful well defined face. " She's really sweet, different from all other foreign teachers, she knows English perfectly and never makes mistakes. Now , Mam'zelle Blanchet on her left side is the opposite " she was a plump woman with laughing gray eyes and short copper red hair. She wore glasses and was dressed grandly. "She's always getting angry at someone, but when her tantrums pass she's making excuses for her anger .

"Then a tall girl came to their table. "That's Ruby Scott, Bella Scott's sister, she's sorority manager this year"whispered Isabelle. Ruby started to speak " Hey , all of you , I'm Ruby Scott ,this year's sorority manager ,I'm in the 6th form and yes , Bella is my sister . Now for the business part ,the newcomers will get invitations to the sororities and all of the sorority trustees don't let any newcomer without a sorority . When you've all received invitations come to me and I will disribute your badges,sorority books and ribbons.Now all the newcomers ,please gather around me ,I'll take you to Miss Dennis .

Carrie was nervous and excited and in her excitement she slipped her arm through Iris's and asked her "Shall we go together?" . Now Iris had been thinking hard ,she wasn't a selfish girl but she liked attention payed to her and when Carrie instead of talking to her turned her back on her and started talking to Isabelle ,she reached a decision ,she would ignore Carrie and chum with Micky instead . Now she took her arm out and replied coldly "I have decided to go with Micky " . Carrie was surprised and she tried to take the tears out of her voice " Oh,it's no problem, " she said and tried to force a laugh but it came out as a sob . Iris looked at Carrie and took her hand out of Micky's grasp ,she took a step to where Carrie stood but,then they had reached the headmistresses office and Micky pulled Iris to the front of the line.

"Come in " said soft voice and they all went  in .  Miss Dennis asked each of them their names and said some words to  each individually. Then she addressed them as whole . But Iris's eyes were held to Carrie's sad face. At the end the headmisstress announced their forms and houses. She declared " Iris Redwor Poppy House , Mackenzie Evans , Poppy House ,Caroline Robinson , Daisy House , "Wait a minute but I was to have Lily house 'interrupted Carrie . " But your father gave us  in the form that you were to learn housekeeping" said Miss Dennis. "Housekeeping , it's just marvelous ! Exclaimed Carrie . I always wished to learn housekeeping . Miss Dennis smiled "Now shall I go on? "She asked . "Oh sorry I interrupted, I was just excited."apologised Carrie . "Now where was I ,oh yes Iris Redwor Poppy house ,third form, Mackenzie Evans , Poppy house third form , Caroline Robinson Daisy House third form ..................."
