"Yes he's gone! He's not in his cage!" Jinyoung answered.

Jaebum ran a hand through his wet hair, brows furrowed. "But... But I left him there last night-"

"Bullshit! You're always taking him from one place to another without telling me, I found out you guys went to the kitchen yesterday, what if he contaminated food!?" Jinyoung yelled through the phone, obviously in mid-panic from Youngjae's unknown whereabouts.

"He didn't contaminate anything! I literally just made him breakfast, it's not that serious." Jaebum retorted.

He could hear Jinyoung scoff through the phone. "What is serious is that we have a lost hybrid on our hands and you were the last person to see him."

The elder's jaw fell open. Jinyoung was blaming him for fully losing Youngjae, almost as if he were a criminal. "Are you accusing me of something!? I told you I left him in his cage last night, check the damn security cams if you don't believe me! I still care about your job too Jinyoung, why would you assume I'd do something crazy and put you at risk?"

"Because you've already done it once." Jinyoung answered, tone cold and steely. "I can't keep cleaning up after your messes, this just got ten times more serious, I'm in fucking critical danger right now."

The scientist had a point that Jaebum hated to admit, but it wasn't like he purposely put Jinyoung at risk for his own desires. Especially not now-- Jaebum knew he didn't know where Youngjae was, and if he did, he would've been the first person to go get him. "Look if I had Youngjae I'd tell you I had him, stop making me a suspect and look for him!"

"I am looking for him, and you're the biggest suspect!" Jinyoung yelled.

Jaebum had to hold the phone away from his ear, else the younger would ruin his eardrums. "M-Maybe someone took him to get washed and groomed? Or he could be asleep somewhere, just not in his cage..."

"No one knows where he is! I've asked everyone, and most of them say they last spotted him with you." Jinyoung replied. He let out a heavy sigh, the both of them going silent for a moment as they thought about the hybrid's whereabouts. "...Did you lock him in last night?"

Jaebum blinked. "What?"

"His cage. Did you lock him in before you left."

The last thing he remembered was saying goodbye and thinking how cute the hybrid was... but locking the cage? That wasn't anywhere in his memory. "I... don't remember..."

It sounded like Jinyoung angrily hit something in the lab. "Are you kidding me!? You didn't lock him in and you expect him to just stay in the cage willingly!?"

"Yes!? I mean, no- I don't know!" Jaebum groaned, leaning forward against the white marble counter. "If you remember correctly, I'm not a big fan of the cage in the first place, the only reason why I haven't gotten rid of the thing is 'cus you'll cry over it!"

"Shut up no I won't-!" Jinyoung also let out another agitated sound. "Look, we're spending too much time arguing. You need to get in the car and get your ass here to find my hybrid."

"Our hybrid." Jaebum corrected. He took in a breath, quickly grabbing his toothbrush and toothpaste set in a cup right next to the faucet to haphazardly brush his teeth with one hand. "Just try to calm down, I'm on my way."

"I can't calm down when a fucking top secret project is missing!" Jinyoung retorted.

"Jinyoung you said he has a tracker, right?" Jaebum asked before shoving the sloppily toothpaste covered bristles in his mouth. He walked out the bathroom towards his room to throw on a random set of clothes.
