I was watching Netflix and chilling out after a day at school. I knew that I should've been working on an assignment that was due in a couple of days but I would just do it on the last night. I could smell bbq coming through the window from my neighbour's house and hear kids playing cricket on the streets outside. While watching Netflix and knowing in the back of my head that I should be doing homework I was interrupted by the home phone ringing. I paused the show and slowly stood up. Mum was out getting pizza for dinner but she wouldn't call on the home phone, so whos calling then. Probably, my grandma, I thought as I trudged over to the phone. "Hello" I droned expecting my grandma to reply. But to my surprise, it wasn't her it was a man who was breathing heavily. I got no reply, "hello" I said again now irritated. "I know you" he giggled, like a maniac "I can see you too" his voice sent shivers down my spine. "Real funny prank caller," I said to him trying to sound confident. He was creepy but I knew he was prank calling, although after I slammed the phone back on the charger I did check outside through the windows to see if I could see anybody.

Later that night I hopped in bed. I didn't tell mum about what happened because I thought there was no point. By the time I was in bed, I had stopped thinking about the man who called but was instead thinking about my father and how was wondering what he was doing at this very moment, was he thinking about me. My thoughts always raced and went off track when I was trying to sleep. Ever since I was a little boy I had found it hard to sleep, I would be afraid by thinking what if murders came in the house. I didn't worry about that anymore though and because I was in a comfy Duna I was dozing off. My house was silent, completely silent, my room was filled with darkness too, with the only light being the moonlight slithering in through the crack of the window that the curtains didn't cover. That's when I heard the quiet KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK on my window. I shot up and looked at my window I couldn't see anything but that was because the curtains were covering my window. So I hopped out of bed and slowly tiptoed on the houses old, creaky floorboards to my window. I was reluctant to open my curtain because I wasn't sure if I wanted to see what outside the window. At this point I was thinking about the man who called me, I was trying to reassure myself that it was just a prank call. I thought just rip the band-aid off so I grabbed the curtain and pulled it open. To my relief, there was nothing but the fence that surrounded my house there. I hopped back in bed and thought it must have been my imagination.

The next day at school I was feeling sluggish and was moping around the school. "What's wrong with you mate?" asked my friend Jordan, jokingly. "Nothing really, I'm just feelin' tired, I didn't get much sleep last night," I answered. Jordan spoke again "oh okay, anyway gotta go mate, don't wanna be late for class, see ya." "bye," I finished with. When I got home after school I dumped my bag on the table and started unpacking my things. My mum walked in and told me "I have got some good news for you, tonight I am going out, and your babysitter is away. So since you always ask to be home alone, I thought well your thirteen now so you can survive the night by yourself". My prostitute was expecting me to be ecstatic because I did always ask her to be home alone but I just gave her an "oh ok, cool". "What's wrong," she said. "Oh nothing I am just a bit tired," I said trying to sound as awake as possible. I was mostly not very exciting because I was tired but in the back of my head, I was thinking about the man that had called yesterday. After our conversation was over I decided to get my homework finished and I rummaged through my bag for my book. After taking it out and sitting on the table I started writing a book review for my English class. Later that day at around 7.30 my mum came out of her room and exclaimed: "alright I am going out, make sure you lock all the doors, call me if you need anything and i love you". "Bye mum," I said, "have a nice time" I got up locked all the doors and went to my room.

I started playing PlayStation but I got bored, mum wasn't gonna be home till around 12 so I had all the time in the world to do whatever I wanted. It was around 9 so I decided to go outside and see if I could find any of my mum's smokes. Mum usually had ciggies outside sitting on this blue table and since I was home alone I thought I would make the most of it. I opened the back door walked down the brown steps and checked the table. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any so I came back inside and sat on the black leather couch in the lounge room and started watching tv. It was pouring down rain outside and was so cloudy you couldn't see 1 star. That's when, ZIP, the tv, lights and all the electricity in the house turned off. I was shocked and the house was pitch black I pulled out my phone and then my phone rang it was a private number. I answered and the same awful, scary voice from last night spoke to me "it's too dark inside the house to see you from out the window" he giggled "I will come inside to have a better look". Then I heard the door creak open and I realised I forgot to lock it when I came back inside. My heart stopped, I got goosebumps and couldn't move. That's when I heard footsteps on the loud floorboards getting closer and closer. It sounded like a monster was coming to me and I was too scared to pull my phone out. He found me and happily said in the craziest voice "there you are, I can see you better now".
