Nathan’s POV

As we slowly approach Jay’s house, I can’t help but notice the look of confusion on Rheanna’s face.

“I thought we were going to yours?” she asks me.

“Look Rheanna, I think we both know that’s a bad idea. I have a life now, a daughter. I need to think about her and let’s face it, Renee isn’t going to be too pleased if you turn up on our door step is she?” I ask her, as I park the car outside Jay’s house.

“I suppose” she sighs.

“Look, I know you don’t have anything with you” I state, as I reach into my pocket and I pull out my wallet. “Take this” I tell her, giving her two fifty pound notes. I know she needs this money more than me. I have a bank full of cash, but right now, she doesn’t have any.

“I can’t take this, Nathan” she tells me, but I just smile.

“Yes you can, now come on” I tell her, as I get out of the car and then I go and get Leo out.

“Where are we mum?” he says, as I put him down on the floor.

“We’re going to be staying with Jay for a little while. You’re ok with that aren’t you?” Rheanna asks him.

“Who’s Jay?” Leo asks her, as I lock up the car and head towards the front door, with Leo and Rheanna following.

“He’s an old friend of mummy’s” she says, referring to herself. I knock on the door, hoping that he’s in. I know he went out with Siva last night and with him, you never know whether he is going to go home, or end up in a ditch somewhere.

The door soon opens and I see a very confused Jay standing there in just his boxers.

“Nathan?” he says, whilst yawning.

“Look I need a favour mate” I tell him, as I glance at Rheanna and Leo who are standing nervously behind me.

“Oh shit!” he says, looking startled and trying to cover his body up. “One second” he says as he closes the door and I can hear him running up the stairs. I turn to look at Rheanna and she just shrugs.

About two minutes Jay returns, but this time he is fully clothed and looking a bit more awake.

“What the hell is she doing back?” Jay asks me, bitterly.

“Look, she’s been through a hard time and she needs a place to stay” I tell him, giving him the please-mate look.

“Why can’t she stay with you?” he asks me, in the same bitter tone.

“You know why. Now please. You don’t want to see a seven year old boy homeless do you?” I ask him, knowing he would agree to that. He’s always been a sucker for the guilt trip.

“Fine” he sighs. “But for the kid, not for her” he says, giving Rheanna a bitter look.

“Thanks mate. Oh and if you see Renee, best not to mention Rheanna or if you have to, I didn’t bring her here, ok?” I ask him, hoping he’ll have my back.

“Yeah whatever” he says, rolling his eyes. “You gonna come in or what?” he says, giving Rheanna the what-are-you-waiting-for look.

Siva’s POV

As I sit on the sofa wondering what I did wrong to make Claire go off with another man, but still I can’t think of a reason. I always made her feel loved and I would do anything for her, I would even risk my life for her. She’s everything to me and she knows that. I couldn’t sleep a wink last night. Every time I closed my eyes, I could just see him and her and it sent shivers down my spine. It was like it was haunting me. I can’t hide from it.

At that moment, I hear someone put a key into the front door. As the key turns in the lock, my heart starts to beat faster and I can feel every bone in my body freeze in place. What lie is she going to feed to me this time?

The door soon opens and I hear Claire’s footsteps as she enters the house and closes the door behind her. She then walks into the living room and smiles at me. How can she do that? Why is she happy? She should be begging for forgiveness and confessing her sins to me, in the hope that we can start fresh. They say a smile can hide a thousand lies and they’re right. So, I just smile back, as if nothing’s wrong.

“How was your night, hun?” I ask her, with the same fake smile.

“It was good, yeah really good in fact” she smiles at the thought of it. She makes me sick. I just want to jump up and shake her. How can she stand there and act like she’s done nothing wrong?

“That’s good then. How’s Renee and everyone?” I ask her, not that I didn’t know the answer. We both know that she wasn’t with the girls last night, but that doesn’t stop her from lying to me, does it?

“They’re fine” she smiles again. Wow, no wonder I never realised it before. Her smile looks real. How could I be so stupid? This whole time she’s been lying to me and I didn’t even know it. The real question is, how long has this been going on? What if they’ve been at it since before the wedding? I wouldn’t be able to cope with that. When I entered into this marriage, I was serious. That was the best day of my life and now it’s just a memory and potentially a mistake. How could I be so blind? She obviously doesn’t love me, or why would she be off with him behind my back? I hate him so much, but what can I do? We’re supposed to be friends. I trusted him and this is how he repaid me. People told me not to trust him, not to be friends with him, but I did it anyway. I thought he was a decent guy, but I was wrong, so very wrong!
