Esumi walked through the front gardens of the First Magic High School campus. She was curious to find out what it would be like in this high school. The welcoming ceremony for the first years was about half an hour away. The First High's uniform was based on a minty green on top of black and white, with veils of varying colors on the girls. Her veil was orange, with koi fish patterns. On the shoulders and where the breast pocket of the small jacket would be, there was an emblem. Since she got fourth place scores on the written test, and decent scores on the placement test, she had a blank. Some other of the schoolmates had flowers. When she passed them by, they would murmur. "A Weed, here so early? She must be so excited to be at school. What kind of person does she think she is?" Esumi presumed that a 'Weed' meant someone without a flower on their insignia. Weed was also presumably the epithet in this school for what was officially called a 'reserve'. She didn't understand why they already judged her by her insignia. Discrimination already.
Walking down the pathways, she saw a handsome-looking student. He also had no flower on his insignia. He was talking to a younger, female student. She had a veil and a flower on her shoulders. Were they dating from middle school? Esumi blushed, embarrassed at her own thoughts. She was about to turn around when she got tapped on the shoulder from a pretty lady with long brown hair. The hair went to about the middle of her back. Esumi turned around, and bowed. "Excuse me." she said politely. The other student nodded, smiling. "Nice to meet you. My name is Saegusa, Mayumi. I'm the student council president here at First High School."
Esumi smiled politely. "Hello, Saegusa-san. I am Yamataka, Esumi. Nice to meet you, too."
Mayumi sighed. "No need with all the politeness. You can just call me Mayumi."
Esumi blushed. "Thank you, Mayumi-san..."
Esumi bowed and excused herself. She walked over to where the other boy was before. He was gone, and so was the girl. She looked at the other pathways, and saw the boy walking down the street, straightening his tie. He was slightly frowning. She ran up to him. The boy turned to look at Esumi. Esumibowed politely. "Excuse me, sir." The boy turned and bowed politely back to Esumi. "Hello. Who are you?" Esumi smiled politely, and held her hands together behind her back. "I'm sorry. My name is Yamataka, Esumi. Pleasure to meet you." The boy straightened. "Hello,Yamataka-san. My name is Shiba, Tatsuya. Pleasure to meet you, too." You both looked up when a small girl with short, orange hair ran up to them. "Kaijo!" she called. Esumi turned around and saw Mayumi right behind her. Esumi calmly stepped back and smiled, embarrassed. "Sorry, Mayumi-san." The small girl looked up at Esumi and Tatsuya. "Hello, Shiba-kun. Who's this girl?" Mayumi stepped up to the small girl. "What is it, A-chan?" Tatsuya looked at Esumi and introduced her to the small girl. "This is Nakajo, Azusa. I presume that you already know Saegusa-san." Esumi nodded. "Thank you, Shiba-san." Tatsuya sighed. "You can just call me Tatsuya." Esumi bowed politely. "Thank you, Tatsuya-kun."
Azusa grabbed Mayumi's hand. "I told you not to call me A-chan, Kaijo! I have a reputation to uphold!" Mayumi giggled. "I understand. Now what did you want to tell me?" Azusa realized that she forgot to tell Mayumi. "Oh! The rehearsal's starting!" The two ran off to the assembly hall. Tatsuya and Esumi were left standing in the intersection. "So, Tatsuya-kun, would you like to go to the assembly hall?" Tatsuya nodded. "Yes."
They were in the assembly hall. Esumi was right behind Tatsuya as he looked around. Esumi was also taking in her surroundings. Hmmm... Esumi thought to herself. The Blooms... that's what they're called, are in the front... The ones in the back are Weeds. More discrimination like those Blooms that passed me by in the front garden. Tatsuya chose a seat in the very back. Esumi sat across the aisle from him. Two girls came and asked Tatsuya if they could sit next to him. She overheard their slight conversation. Tatsuya let them sit next to them. One of the girls had glasses and purple feather earrings. Her name was Mizuki Shibata. The other girl had red hair that spiked up. Her name was Erika Chiba. They started talking about how their names were alike. Esumiwas feeling left out. Esumi straightened, embarrassed at her personal thoughts. Esumi Yamataka! Get a hold of yourself! Esumi sighed, and sat back in her seat. Tatsuya looked at her, his eyebrows raised. Esumi blushed. "Excuse me, Tatsuya-kun." Tatsuya nodded, slightly smiling.
One of the other student council members annouced Miyuki Shiba, the incoming students' representative. Esumi raised her eyebrows, and glanced at Tatsuya. He was intently staring at the stage. They're totally siblings. She leaned over and whispered to Tatsuya. "Is she your sister?" Tatsuya nodded. "Yeah." Esumi leaned back into her seat, smirking.
Miyuki began her speech.
As the sunlight streams gently, and the vivid cherry blossoms flutter on this gorgeous spring day, I feel so happy and honored that my wish to be admitted to the prestigious National Magic University Affiliated First High School has come true. On behalf of the incoming students, and filled with the pride of being a member of First High School...
Esumi looked at Tatsuya, who was smiling serenely, with closed eyes.
This was beginning to look like an interesting year.
