Hardin's POV:

I sink my teeth deep in her already wounded neck and savour her taste, hearing the girl's heart beat. I close my eyes. I want things to be less in focus. Sometimes these hyper active Vampire senses irritate me to no hell.

"Are you going to kill me?" The girl whats-her-name asks me in her annoying sweet voice.

Oh darling you've no idea!

I pull away from her smacking my lips. I had to. She would've died otherwise. And she mustn't die. Not yet.

"Sweety, what's your name again?" I ask tucking a hair strand behind her ear.

"Ruby." She replies like some automaton, like someone compelled her. Oh yes, I compelled her. Best perk of a being a Vampire.

"Here's the thing, Ruby. You're still alive. Which means, I don't wanna kill you. At least not yet." I smirk at her.

She smiles at me like a puppy. She looks happy! See! I'm not doing anything wrong at all. An hour ago or so, she was working as a bartender at a lameass bar whose owner used to give her enough shit every time. And now here she is, in my arms, happy and carefree. Okay I compelled her to be happy and carefree but that's for her own good. And...mine too, I guess.

"What about these people?" She waves her hand around the room. Do remind me of compelling her for not asking any questions from me in future.

"Tsk tsk. I think I made quite a mess here. And, sweet heart, they aren't people anymore, just bodies drained of blood." I smirk and look around the dingy motel room.

I grab the girl's hand dragging her across the room and get out of the yummy smelling place. Warm sun hits my face.

"Let me foretell tomorrow's news headline, first get your ass in the car." I command her and she promptly gets in.

"Five bodies mysteriously drained of blood at a Motel room in North Carolina." I smile revving up the car.

The girl giggles beside me.

"Smells like some sacrificial ritual, what do you say?" I smirk at her pulling out my car from the shitty place.
