Hi, my name is Kaylee Hope. I am a muggle-born Hufflepuff. I have several siblings. My family is very unique, we have four muggle-borns in our family that attend Hogwarts. That is not normal. I have three brothers and a sister.
My older sister, Bethanne, often feels left out because she is the only kid in our family to not be magical. When my older brother Johnathan went to Hogwarts is was no big deal. I mean it was because we had no idea about magic up until that point, but it wasn't as if there was reporters and cameras like later on. When Jacob went to Hogwarts it caused a little stir, but not much. But when me and my twin brother Carter went to Hogwarts it was a different story altogether. The reporters had a minefield. There had never been so many muggle-borns in one family before.
They even ran tests on my family to see if we were born with a different man as our father and our mother had kept it hidden. That didn't work. Our father was actually our father and our mother was actually our mother. They ran tests to see if there was any trace of magical history in our family. There wasn't. Big surprise there. Note the sarcasm.
When Bethanne found out that she was the only one without magic she literally threw a plate at my head. She had always been distant from the rest of us. But still none of us had expected that. We had been washing and drying the dishes while the boys did outside work and Mom and Dad were out for lunch. I had been talking about how excited I was to go to Hogwarts when she screamed,
"SHUT UP! Nobody cares about how you get to go be a freak and a weirdo at that stupid school! I hate you!" Then she grabbed the plate she was drying and lifted it above her head. At this I started screaming.
"Bethanne! What are you doing? YIKES!" She threw the plate as hard as she could at my face. I ducked and it shattered against the wall behind me. The boys at this point heard us and came running in just in time to see her raise another plate, and me on backed up against the wall crying.
Carter started yelling, Jacob panicked, and John started to run towards Bethanne. She threw the plate and this time I couldn't move.
"No!" Carter screamed.
CRASH!
The plate hit me on the side and splintered. I was cut in several different places. The cuts burned and stung like heck. John tackled Bethanne before she could do anything more. Carter ran towards me.
"Are you all right?" He asked as soon as he reached my side. Jacob finally moved.
"Kaylee! Let me see your cuts." He commanded. I slowly removed my hands from my side. He winced when he saw my torn up side. It was bleeding like crazy. Then I showed him my hands.
"Dang! Kay your lucky that didn't hit you in the face."
"I know." I whispered weakly.
John was still sitting on Bethanne and she was crying. Carter slowly looked over at her. He started glaring. I had never seen such a look of anger on his face. Not even when Jacob had torn his signed baseball card. He looked like he was going to destroy her. I told him it was fine, I was fine and he calmed down.
Jacob bandaged me and we never told Mom or Dad about it. Not that they would care much. Mom and Dad didn't like magic. They weren't as hateful towards it as Bethanne, but they still showed how they felt about it.
When we went to Hogwarts Bethanne refused to go. She told Mom and Dad she wasn't feeling well. I didn't mind.
I wanted to get into Huffpuff or Gryffindor. John was a fifth year Gryfindor and Jacob was a third year Hufflepuff. Bethanne would have been a fourth year. When I got on the Platform I was so bust looking around that I crashed straight into someone. We both crumpled to the ground.
