Knock knock knock
Everyone hears the banging on the door from across the two-story house. The mother moves from the kitchen to open the door.
Three kids sat upstairs, minding their own business- two teens and a child. All of them look to each other to see if the other knows what was going on as no one had a clue about someone coming over or a package delivery. Especially the two teens who would keep both ears open just in case their mother was tied up or left.
Without notice, the older teen catches a whiff of a sweet aroma. She knows it smells familiar but can't place where. Jumping up, she runs down the stairs yelling, "Hey mom, did you order pizza or something? It smells delicious!" Once she reaches the bottom, she tries to look past her mother to see what lay behind the door and where the godly smell was coming from.Getting pass the human barrier, she comes face to face with a guy a couple of years older than her, maybe, and one look at his eyes, there's nothing else but him to her- like everything around her no longer exists.
As if she's in a trance, she walks over to the unknown person, ignoring her mother's calls. Immediately, like a cobra, she wraps her arms around him and breathes in the scent coming off them. She losses herself in everything until a low growl and what sounds like someone saying "Mine" attaches itself to her ears.
Faster than lightning, her grip drops as reality comes flooding back to her. Looking around her, she peers upward and jerks back. She runs back into the house, shouting up the stairs, yelling about clearing out the bathroom to jump in the shower.
Back with the mother, she looks at the man both flabbergasted and seething with anger. Giving him the same amount of anger- if not more- she, stern as a rock, says, "I need you to get far away from my house and never come back. If I or anyone here catches you within eyesight of this building, I won't hesitate to call the cops."
"Heh," the man smirked, crossing his arms, "you can try, but my mate will be with me one way or another." With a quick chuckle, he turns around and says how he'll see her again sooner or later. As soon as the door closes and is locked, the mother moves to the stairs and, in a near shout, says "Do you want to tell me what the hell was that?!" All while laying her right hand against the door and her left hand on her hip. "Amyra."
Still at a loss for words, Amyra stares at her reflection as she tries to figure what she was doing in that moment. What the heck just happened? Again? For real? "Urgh. MOOOM!" she cracks the door to look down the stairs, "I think I need to see a doctor."
"Uh huh," her mom says as she climbs the stairs, "So will you tell me who the heck that was and what you two were doing on my porch?" Once she reaches the top of the steps, she crosses her arms.
Amyra contemplates to herself about how to go explaining this before just outright telling the story. "Well, it started at work about a month ago. But you might want to sit down cuz it's gonna be a bit of a long story."
"Fine. But you're in trouble for not telling me beforehand that this ish was going on. My room when you're done."
Amyra looks into her mother's eyes with a sheepish smile, "I- uh. I don't have any clothes... or a towel. Ehehe. I just ran in here." She shrinks a little more behind the door while saying so.
Her mother sighs and turns halfway behind her to her other two kids on the steps. "Dijonae, go get you sister some clothes and a towel. And Terryl," she stares directly into the youngest's eyes, "don't come knocking on my door for anything until we're done talking. And if I find out either of you were eavesdropping, we're gonna have some problems. Got it?"
All the kids nodded and got to doing what their mother asked them to do. In the next fifteen minutes, with everyone minding their own business and Amyra and her mom tucking themselves in the far corner of the room. "Ok mom. you're gonna wanna take a seat for this. It' a pretty long story."
"I've got time. I'll stand."
Amyra grimaces at this. "You sure?" With a nod from her mother, she sighs, "Okay. Well in started back in Highschool-"
"IT WHAT!?"
"Mom! Mom. Just- relax a bit. there's a lot I need to tell you, but understand that I didn't say anything because I've tried everything I could to protect you, Dad, Ryl, and D. And I might have died earlier this year if it weren't for my friends and coworkers honestly."
Dumbfounded, her mother looks Amyra dead in the eyes, "And you didn't tell us because what? Protection?"
"Yes. And not from him, but me," she sighs before motioning to the small couch sitting in the corner behind them. Once they both get comfortable, Amyra looks deep in her mother's eyes and breathes. "Ever since the last day of high school, just before graduation- me, Jus, Ems, and Chris all went to Starbucks to get something to drink before heading home. We sat at a table waiting for about five minutes. I think that's when he walked in, but at the time I really wasn't paying attention..."
