"Can you not speak?" he asked, as the girl nodded in agreement. Poor gal. If only he could find a way to cheer her up, then she won't be so bonely anymore. Bonely...
"Hey, kid. Mind to tell me what's 'mustarding' in that brain of yours? 'Cause I think I've got a lot to 'ketchup' about you." he chuckled at his own pun. His grin grew wider when the girl started to light up, back to the smile he saw earlier. But nay, it didn't stay for too long. He patted her back to comfort her, but as soon as his bony hands touched the girl's back, she began to sob harder, and in a flash, embraced the unsuspecting skeleton.
He let the girl cry on his chest, he didn't mind. Finding no other way to make her feel better, he gently patted her head instead, feeling her chocolate brown hair beneath his ivory palms. She cried for long, and the monster still has no idea what caused her to weep. He must find out soon, or else someone would find them, and suspect him of being the reason of her sorrows. But what he didn't know was that he really was the antecedent of her grief.
So far, no one has passed by the hall of Snowdin, until...
"Frisk?!" a voice cried, its owner's footsteps coming in closer, "Sans, what is the meaning of this?"
"Chara, it's not what it looks like! I didn't do anything!" he said, looking back at another girl, whose appearance matched of those features of the girl he held in his arms.
Chara tugged the girl towards her, holding her tight. Did she know her? What is her relationship with the girl?
"And why is she crying?" she barked, demanding an answer.
"I don't know. Issues, I'm guessing." sighed Sans, still eyeing Chara's tight grip on the crying girl, "Why would you even care? It's not like she's someone close to you. We've just met her."
"She's my sister!" she hissed, her red ruby eyes glaring at the skeleton, "Why else would I protect her from people..." she paused, glancing at him, "Or monsters... Like you."
Chara was Sans' only 'friend' from the outside. How could she be mad at him right now? Most importantly, how could she quickly have a change of heart? Back in the Underground, she was very nice to him. Very nice. She'd smile at him all the time, good times. And now, here she is, in front of him; glaring like a hawk that lost its young ones.
He was about to start an argument, when suddenly, they noticed the girl they held, snoring peacefully. She was fast asleep, and was still cradled on Chara's arms.
"Let's do this conversation tomorrow. She's been through a lot lately, and is very tired. I better tuck her in." whispered Chara, as she tried to hold up the girl to stand.
Sans nodded in agreement, and was about to head for his dorm, when he noticed Chara having a hard time, holding the girl, with her arm on Chara's shoulder.
She was surprised to see blue aura surrounding the girl she held, as it gently lifted her up to the air, floating. She glanced at Sans, whose right hand raised into what seemed like holding an object. He's using his ability of telekinesis to help her. She smiled back at him, mouthing a 'thank you'.
"No problem, kid." he whispered, concentrating on making sure, the girl doesn't fall to the ground.
Only a few monsters can have a special ability like this. No one knows about Sans' magical ability, not even his brother. Only Chara knows about it, since she was the only one he could really trust. After what she did to all monsters, there is no one else he could turn to, except for her. And now, after helping his friend, there's no need to have any conversation with her tomorrow, that's for sure.
As soon as they arrived to Chara's dorm, he gently put the girl he held on her bed. Still curious about her identity, he asked, "What's her name?"
Chara smiled down to her new sister, "Frisk. Frisk Mercy Dreemurr." she said, gently petting the sleeping girl's hair.
"Frisk. That's a good name. You sure you didn't name her yourself?" he asked, demanding reassurance.
"Oh don't be silly, skelly boy. Toriel named her. If I would name her, it would be a name no one would forget." she laughed, placing a playful punch on his arm.
"Doesn't even look 'frisky'. But one thing for sure, I hope she won't grow up like the Dreemurr siblings." he teased.
"And why's that?" she said, arching an eyebrow at him.
"'Cause I think you should switch names. You're the one who's frisky enough." he chuckled, turning towards the door.
"Why you..." she was about to give him a piece of his mind, when he interrupted her, just as he was at the door. He sounded very serious.
"Do you know... Your sister can't talk?" he asked.
"What do you mean she can't..." she laughed, but stopped herself, finally looking worried. She glanced at Frisk, who was still sleeping soundly, "I thought she's just speechless after meeting us." she sighed, "I guess I'm wrong. Now that I know she's a bit more vulnerable, I have to look after her in strict surveillance."
"Don't count me in! I too, got a lot of work to do." whistled Sans in alarm.
"Yeah, right." she rolled her eyes, adding, "I'm not asking you. Yet. But," she paused, glowering at him, "If you've got time, I would very much appreciate if you'd watch over her, even for a little while. Okay?"
He sighed, "Fine... But if I have time." he said, before finally closing the door shut behind him.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Her eyes still closed, she could hear the door closing. He's gone. But Chara's still sitting at the side of her bed, so it's not yet safe to say, the coast is clear. Until...
Achoo...
"Frisk?" Chara turned her head, her mahogany-colored hair flowed as she did so, "You're awake?"
Oh, great. Her very soft and gentle sneeze alerted the girl. How come there's sound when she sneezed? Wasn't she supposed to produce any sound? But there's no choice, her 'sister' caught her, so. She just nodded and sat up. Soon they just sit there, staring at each other.
"You mean to say, you were awake all this time?" asked Chara, in surprise, finally breaking the silence. Frisk nodded, not bothering to look at her.
"Then why did you pretend to be asleep?" said Chara, coming near her, curious.
Did she really expect Frisk to actually answer that question? But she wished to tell her, she did that to stop the growing fight that was about to happen. Although she doesn't trust Chara, she didn't want Sans to be arguing with his 'friend'.
"You did that to stop us, right? To prevent our argument?" said Chara, looking down at her feet. She seemed thankful, though. "Thank you." Chara hugged her sister in thanks.
Guess being her sister wasn't that bad after all, right? No. This is a deceit. There's no way she'd fall for it. Then again, she just wanted to live in peace, so she decided to give her chance. Besides, this is a true reset. She hoped.
