School Straight Ahead With a Surprise Around the Corner

Janus was sleeping peacefully in his warm bed once again before being jerked awake by a very excited three year old bouncing on his bed. The older man looked at the kid with confused, sleepy eyes.

"First day of school! First day of school!" Remus cheered as he continued bouncing up and down on the bed.

Janus, still half asleep, nodded slowly and got up out of bed with the hyper child bouncing around the room and out the door. They got to the kitchen where Janus quickly made breakfast for his son and a cup of coffee for himself to wake him up from his drowsy state. The pair ate then got dressed, Janus helping Remus once again put on his outfit. They then got Remus' backpack and made their way to the car where Remus was buckled up in the back and Janus took the drivers seat.

He started up the car, pulled out of the driveway, and started to Remus' kindergarten. The whole ride Remus was babbling on and on about what he wanted to do and learn while at school, and how many friends he was going to make. Janus smiled and chuckled at several of the toddler's comments, the innocence (not for long) that radiated off the child almost too much to handle.

After about fifteen minutes of driving Janus pulled into the parking lot, careful to avoid the other parents and children crossing as they made their way to school as well. Janus got out of his car and then helped Remus out who was tugging his backpack around his arms. They then walked hand in hand across the parking lot, down the sidewalk, up the three stepped stairs, and to the door covered in cartoon stickers.

"Alright Remus, you behave at school. Have fun, make some new friends and listen to your new teacher," said Janus while kneeling in front of his son.

Remus nodded and rapped his arms around Janus' neck in one last hug before heaving the door open and running inside to start the school day. Janus watched him go then briskly walked back to his car so he wouldn't break down crying out in the open. He hopped in the driver's seat where a few tears did escape his eyes, but he managed to contain most of them.

He then turned the vehicle on and drove back to his house to begin his work.
