You hastily opened the door and slammed it shut once you were inside. You were furious and felt ridiculed. You took of your heels and placed them on the shoe rack. You headed to the living room and threw yourself onto the couch. You let out and exasperated sigh and cupped your face with your palms, elbows on knees.
"The interview didn't go well I suppose?" Your brother Jaehyun, appeared from the doorway. You huffed and glanced at him. A small smirk hung on his face as he mischievously raised his brow to torment your failure, once again.
This wasn't the first time you had failed to achieve a job. You had always gotten rejected or never got a reply back after each and every interview. It annoyed you that your younger brother, twenty one, already has a job while you're still struggling to get a job at the age twenty three.
Though it didn't really surprise you. Your brother was always the favourite child. He had good grades, scores and he'd be able to get whatever he wants by your parents. However, you were disliked by your parents. You had flunked every class but managed to get out with an okay score. You didn't mind, as long as you had a roof over your head you'd be able to get on with life.
As soon as you turned 18 you moved out into your own home. Your parents still gladly payed the rent for you as you were struggling with bills. You were their daughter and first born after all. Soon after you'd turn 20 your brother moved into your house. From then on he decided to pay the bills, in which you were thankful for. You didn't have to be a burden to your parents.
For three years onwards you were still struggling to find a job. However, you were determined to find one and keep one. As long as you had a job you'd be happy. You didn't want to depend on your younger brother for ever. He was your younger sibling and you were the older one. You should be looking after him instead of him looking after you.
"What happened this time?" Your brother asked, walking towards you and eventually sitting right beside you. You heaved out a sigh and began talking.
"This guy ran into me spilling coffee and I flipped him off for not apologising to me. I mean he dirtied my blazer so he deserved it. Punk has never been taught manners." You showed him your beige coloured blazer. It was now covered by a brown stain, almost black.
"Okay.. and what does this have to do with the interview?" Your brother asked, skeptically. You glanced at him with teary eyes. "Turns out the douche was the interviewer also my boss." You murmured out, your voice wavering.
Jaehyun started laughing and slapping his thigh. "It's not funny. I got humiliated in front of so many people." You said on the verge of crying out of frustration.
"How so?" Your brother immediately stopped, still smiling and trying to contain his laughter. "As soon as I stepped in his office he started cursing and calling me ill-mannered and uneducated. He even made fun of me for how I was dressed. It was literally the same as others in the office, though there was a stain." You ranted out, almost breathless.
You heard your brother let out a sigh. He made large circles on your back with his hand in a comforting manner. "I'll help you find a job. I've recently got a promotion but I have no interests in it." He gave you a big smile.
You turned to look at him with a sceptical look. "So younger brother.. what's the job?" You asked him with a small smile. "You know bighit?" He asked you.
"Of course! Who wouldn't? It's a worldwide famous company for music. The one that has employed that idol singer that all girls are apparently drooling for." You said in a mocking tone. You didn't really like music. If you ever did listen to it you would generally tend to listen to piano covers or classical music. Something that was calm and stress relieving.
"Well I got promoted by that company. As a stylist." He said proudly. You raised your brown in disbelief, your eyes slightly widening. It did sound believable. Your brother had always been good at designing. After all, he did work as a fashion designer. Though it was hard to believe that he got promoted by a large company. Especially one that is known worldwide.
"Are you actually serious? You'd get payed a lot. You should try out the job. I'm not good at being a stylist. You're the professional here." You told him disliking the though of him giving you a big opportunity when it was for him in the first place.
"Whatever I can do. My sister can do it." He let out in a cheerful voice putting his thumbs up.
"Yeah totally. No wonder I flunked my history class while you passed." You rolled your eyes.
"You don't need history for jack shit. I'm talking about fashion here. Your sense of style is good and unique and I can teach you. So shut up and take the job offer. I'll tell them you're going to go instead." He chided, looking at you with a stern stare.
"You sure?" You asked irresolute.
"A hundred percent!" He said smiling widely.
"Best brother ever. What would I do without you?" You smiled with teary eyes.
"Probably die out of starvation cause of living on the streets?" He gave a mischievous grin. Your smile immediately faded.
"You piece of shit get here." You said ready to throw hands.
"Only if you can catch me!" He yelled out, while running into the kitchen. You immediately shot up from your seat ready to catch him.
You couldn't help but to break out in a grin. It'd been a long time since you actually had time to interact with your brother. You'd think he wouldn't help you one bit only because you've been busy on interviews. Though it was really the opposite. He was gladly helping you.
Sometimes you wondered how you managed to have a brother like him. He was probably the maturest and loveliest person you've ever had in your life.
No one else can surpass him.
At least.
Not yet.
