'Knock'
I ignore it casually. Midnight is too early for him anyway.
'Knock'
A second one? The temporary loss of focus caused my death in the game.
"Who the fuck are you?" I shout from my room. No reply. Going back to my game, I get increasingly annoyed.
"Fuck you, idiotic pieces of shit! Go to hell, motherfuckers!"
'Knock'
I explode as the screen flashes my defeat. Enraged, I throw my phone against the wall, creating a small crack at the corner of my phone.
"Motherfucker, you better have a good reason for knocking on my door or else I will fuck you up until your mother cannot even recognize you." I curse under my breath as I tiptoed to see through the peephole.
All I see is a man, wearing a suit. A salesman? This late at night? He wears a mask, covering his nose and mouth. Is he sick? Whatever, I am going to make this as fast as possible.
I swing the door open. His towering height made him look over my head. His bloodshot eyes, presumably from fatigue, darted around, scanning my room. However, it comes to a halt when he met my eyes. His eyes tear up as if he is guilty of a crime before he uses a napkin to wipe his tears up. Squatting down to ensure eye contact with me, I have registered him as the creepiest and weirdest man I ever encounter.
"Hi, excuse me but does Mr Lim live here?" He asked nervously in a muffled voice. Instead of being hoarse and deep, his voice is gentle and calming like my mother's.
Who are you?"
"So sorry but are you his son? Vic Lim?"
"So what if I am?"
"Then there wouldn't be a problem, I need you to give your father this." His voice relaxes as he took a coin out of his pocket. The coin is golden, shining brightly contrasting the darkness that enveloped us. I had never seen such a beautiful coin before causing me to reach out to it unconsciously.
I stop myself midway as I question him, "Who the fuck are you and what the fuck is this?"
His eyes brighten as he calmly explains to me, "I am your father's colleague at work. Name is Josh, in case he asks. Forgot to pass him this. This artefact is known as the coin of reflection or the reflector for short, please don't lose it. Your father will kill me if you do. Thanks!"
The coin tempts me, gleaming in multiple different angles. Without restraint, I snatch the coin.
Somehow in a split second, his sadness penetrates his mask before it disappears without a trace. No, sadness isn't the word. It is guilt instead. However, I push this odd observation aside and focus on the object in hand. With the size of my thumb, it gently rests on my hand. A soothing and gentle warmth ease me as I closely observe its features. Starting from the bottom, there are two minuscule zeroes. Normally, the production year will be at the bottom of the coin.
The mysteries don't end there as directly above the years, there is a quote, "Everyone deserves to be loved." The circumference is filled with $1 symbols. Appearing to be pure gold from its colour and weight. Many questions fill my head but none has any direct answers.
While flipping to the other side of the coin, I accidentally drop it. Instantly, I feel nausea and my head sears from an unknown pain. Any form of movement is enough to send me sobbing in agony.
Grab the fucking coin now.
Grab the fucking coin now!
GRAB THE COIN NOW!
