It was a harsh winter that year and, half in an effort to combat the whipping winds and chilling cold outside and half simply because it made watching a movie easier, Lauren and Camila were bundled up in blankets on Lauren's bed. They were doing just about whatever they could to combat the cold that was the result of Thurberg Hall's creaky, 1970's era furnace. They'd"borrowed" the travelling Tim's hot plate to to make store-bought hot chocolate and soup, were dressed in flannel pyjamas and, because it was a Friday and neither of them had much of any work to do the next day, Camila hadn't even objected when Lauren had broken out a half full bottle of rye and suggested that they "Irish" up the rest of their hot chocolate(and, especially noteworthy for Camila, she hadn't even mentioned that it would have been more appropriate to say it was more like "Canadianing" it up).

But there was a distance between them. Figuratively and, with the two of them on opposite ends of the bed, a literal one. Neither girl would have admitted it, even to themselves, but there was a singular and shared reason for why they weren't quite at ease with each other as they tended to be. Camila was still in the midst of what seemed like an impossible to shake crush on her roommate and so was Lauren.

Lauren's had been going on for some time now. Before her drunken come ons of a few weeks earlier. Lauren had never really been attracted to a girl before but the truth was she was an open and curious girl and she'd simply never given the matter a lot of thought. Now, talks with her best friend about her best friend's sex life were leading to Lauren hearing things described she'd never seen or done before and, being curious, Lauren occasionally would investigate those things on-line when nobody was around. Which, more than once, had lead to some very, very satisfactory sessions of self-pleasure. So when the idea of actually doing some of those things became an itch that Lauren realized she wanted to scratch, she couldn't help but look at Camila differently. Much like Lauren's first time with a boy back home, Lauren liked the idea of doing these things with a friend. Someone she cared about and got along with and knew wouldn't be a jerk.

And, as Lauren had said the first time she'd seen the girl sitting on the bed with her, Camila was beautiful. It was easy to picture kissing those soft, plush lips. Even, now, under layers of glasses, clothing and blankets and her hair tied in messy pigtails, Camila looked like she wouldn't have been out of place on a movie set. Her attraction to Camila had been a burr under her saddle for some time and maybe it was the cold or the bit of whiskey or just the fact that Lauren wasn't the kind of girl who'd feel something and bury it, Lauren knew she was going to act on those feelings. Or at least broach the subject matter. So when the movie came to an end, Lauren turned on the bed to face Camila, who gave her a warm smile.

"Another one?" Camila asked, referring to the stack of movies they'd picked up

"No." Lauren shook her head "I have something I want to ask you."

"Shoot." Camila smiled as she took the last remaining sip of her hot chocolate.

"Ok, I want to say something but you have to promise to hear it with an open mind." Lauren started by looking deep into her roommate's eyes. God they were a gorgeous, brown.

"Promise."

"And if you don't like what I say you swear to forget it forever and chalk it up to craziness."

"Just say it, Lauren."

Lauren bit her lip. It was the point of no return, really. If she let the cat out of the bag now there might not be any putting of it back in. So she hesitated for a moment, but just a moment.

"Remember the night a couple weeks ago when I was drunk and I said I wanted to have sex with you?"

Camila nodded her head with a big smile, it had been endearingly silly on Lauren's part. And though her own feelings for Lauren had kept the possibility in her mind, she still wasn't sure what Lauren was getting at here.
