Lola wished she could be anywhere but here..
She was in a swampy forest, mud up to her ankles, and her friends, Ari and Kaylee had gone home long back. Lola had ventured a bit too far into the forest, and had gotten lost.
I shouldn't have gone this far, thought Lola in dismay, as she trudged forward in the muddy ground. Suddenly, a tall grey house peeked through the treetops. The house stood at the top of a small slope in front of the forest.
It was her house.
Lola frowned, her house was on a busy road, with sandy grass and an unused sidewalk.
It had to be her house, there stood her blueberry bush, and the oak tree. Her trampoline stood in the green lawn, a muddy circle of tall grass beneath it.
As she walked out of the forest and onto her lawn, she saw her little brother Ollie hobbling towards her. "Hi Ola!" he smiled when he reached her. Lola smiled and shook her doubts away. She looked into his soft blue-gray eyes, "How was pre-school?" she asked softly.
Ollie nodded happily and laced his fingers through her own. When they reached the garage, Ollie let go and started "running" towards the door. He wasn't very fast, but it was good enough for him.
Lola looked up, expecting to see her mom's old blue Camry in the garage. Instead she saw a shiny, silver Chevy Impala in its place. Had her mom gotten a new car without telling anyone? Lola saw her mom peek through the door,
"Ola, honey are you okay?"
Lola frowned, "The car.." she began
Her Mom smiled, "We've had that car for ages Lola. Come inside."
Lola trembled, and managed to press on a smile. "O-ok"
Was she hallucinating? Was she unconscious and just thought she was awake ?
