Hazel's POV

I woke up to the creaking of my bedroom door followed by my family screaming happy birthday. I was awoken from my slumber, as I instantly jumped in the air from the fright. My dad, mum and brother were all in front of me with beaming smiles and a huge cake, which was my main focus.

"Happy birthday Hazel! You're finally 16!". My mum said as she went in for a hug.

"She's not quite so little anymore is she?". My dad commented whilst smiling at us. Mum was now satisfied with the extra long hug and let me go.

"Dad, she's the shortest one here. I'd say she's pretty little still". James, my brother, laughed. Everyone laughed except me.

"You're meant to be nice, it's my birthday". I whined while he tousled my hair.

"Right, think it's time for you to blow out the candles and get ready for your big day Hazel". Mum exclaimed, as I got up to blow out the 16 candles.

I closed my eyes and made my wish.

I wish to find my mate today.

And I blew out the candles.

"Right, you get ready and I'll cut up the cake, we'll have it for breakfast just this once" My mum said, in reality we always had cake for breakfast on birthdays but my mum would always deny it if any one asked.

One they all left, it dawned on me. I can now sense my mate if I meet him. I was nervous yet excited. I didn't want to get my hopes up yet because it could be a while till I meet him if he's in another pack.

With that thought, I went into the bathroom to wash my body, face and teeth. Once I was out in my towel, I had to decide what to wear. If I was to meet my mate today, I wanted to impress him.

After debating my outfit for a while, I decided to go with a nude high neck jumper, a black skirt and some platform doc martens. I straightened my hair, it was brown but had natural blonde highlights throughout and in the ends. Then finally, I put on some light makeup to enhance my deep hazel eyes.

Once I was satisfied, I went downstairs and had cake with my family.

"Right, think it's time to go to school now Haze. You ready?" James asked.

"Yeah lets go" I said as I grabbed my bag excitedly.

We said bye to our parents and proceeded to take the short drive to school. I won't lie felt like hours, I needed to know if my mate was there. If he was in our pack he'd be there.

Once we got to school, James parked the car.

"Okay, so I know you'll be able to tell who you're mate is now. I just wanted to say that you might not meet him today but it's okay because you'll meet him very soon at the ceremony either way, okay? Just like I did" James reassured me. Whilst I just nodded, already scanning the parking lot for my mate.

Once he was done with the speech, I did not hesitate to open the car doors. My eyes widened as I was instantly hit with the most enticing and strong scent.

Mate.

This one word was circling in my head. He was here. I knew it.

I walked towards school, searching for him. He must sense me now as well.

I speed walk into school, forgetting about saying bye to my brother and everyone around me.

Suddenly, I was pulled into a classroom on my left. I instantly felt sparks run up my arm making me gasp.

I looked up with wide eyes.

Logan Hutton, the Alpha's son.

His loosely curly black hair drapped over his beautiful blue eyes whilst they pierced into mine.

"You're my ma-" I say as my words are cut short by his.

"Stop. I don't want you. This cannot be right. Angelica was meant to be my mate. She said she could feel it, so could I. Maybe because I'm the next in line to take over the most powerful pack in the county, the moon goddess blessed me with two mates." he tried to reason. "I choose Angelica, okay? I Logan Hutton reject you Hazel Jenkins" Logan said angrily and left.
