Her Assignment

Nakasimangot pa rin ako habang nagsasalita si Lucas sa harapan. He's starting his serious class now. Kung saan man siya mali sa bandang ito, iyon ay ang pagpayag na sa amin magturo. I don't think my classmates can learn from this.

Lahat sila ay halos hindi nakikinig. Humagikhik lang sa kilig at pilit na pilit pa ang sariling huwag magsisisigaw. Murmurs are very clear and it's starting to get noisy.

Tss. Why is he allowed to teach us anyway? Is he a teacher? I'm sure he's just a college student! Pwede ba 'yon?

"KC..." I called KC who's beside me.

"Hm?" Sumagot siya habang nakatingin pa rin kay Lucas na noo'y nagsusulat na sa white board.

"KC..."

Lumingon siya sa akin. "Bakit?"

Ngumuso ako. "Uhm, sino siya?" sabay turo ko kay Lucas.

Napaawang ang bibig niya at tiningnan ako na tila ba sobrang tanga ko para itanong iyon.

"Seriously, Shaireen?"

"What?" Ngumuso lalo ako. "Am I not allowed to ask? He didn't introduce his self! At saka, bakit siya pinayagang magturo sa atin?"

"Hindi ako makapaniwalang nagtatanong ka sa akin ng ganyan." She shook her head in disbelief. "Lucas is a Civil Engineer, Shaireen. 4th year college student. Dean Lister and most intelligent student among engineering. Even the most smartest student in Chemical Engineering couldn't beat him. Professor's preferences in all subjects, handsome, hot, and low key. I think that explains everything,"

"Oh..."

He's an engineer? Fourth year? I remember he's friend with Roderick too. Kaya pala. They were both engineers.

And he's a Dean Lister? He must be so intelligent enough for the professor to trust him in teaching, huh?

"Uhm, ganoon siya katalino?"

"Very."

"So he's nerd?"

"Mukha ba siyang nerd?"

"Eh sinabi mo kasing sobrang talino niya! Ikaw nga matalino oh, nerd ka rin naman!"

She rolled her eyes. "Not all intelligent are nerds, Shaireen. Matalino si Lucas. Inate and learned. Basta matalino siya. Sobra."

"Ganoon?"

"Yes. His three researches were qualified to Thailand the last time. I'm just not sure if it's three or four,"

"Oh..."

"Yes." Nagtaas siya ng kilay sa akin. "Saang planeta ka ba galing at bakit hindi mo siya kilala? He's been so famous and the most inspirational student of the University."

Nagkibit-balikat ako dahil sa totoo lang, I didn't have any idea about him. Maliban sa busy ako sa theater, bibihira ko rin siyang nakikita sa school.

Kinalabit ko ulit si KC pero nasa harap na ang atensyon niya.

"KC," I called

Hindi siya sumagot. Ni hindi na rin siya lumingon sa akin. She looked alarmed and stiff. She is like a kitten being caught by her master.

"Uy, KC. May itatanong pa ako."

Kinalabit ko ulit siya dahil hindi pa ako taposp nang bigla kong nararamdaman ang makisig na bulto sa gilid.

Dahan-dahan ko 'yong nilingon at nakita si Lucas na nakadungaw sa akin. He looked at me with a firm face and serious reaction. Kapagkunwa'y itinagilid niya ang ulo habang titig na titig sa akin.
