Warmth
Illumi was always consumed by the darkness. Day by day, he could not see nor hear anything from his porcelain ears to his hypnotic, pitch black eyes. It was called being blind. And deaf. And though the Zoldyck heads searched far and wide for a cure, Illumi couldn't care less of the ailments he was born with. Eventually, The heads of the family were blessed with other children soon after, Milluki, Killua, Kalluto, and Alluka.
The rest of the children were treated with care and training, while Illumi was always left alone in the corners of his empty chambered room, left with the ever growing dark recesses of his mind. Illumi was shut off from everyone in the world. When people mentioned the Zoldyck family, no one ever thought of the blind, deaf kid hiding in the walls whenever visitors came. He was the shame of the family, because he couldn't fight. The only sense he knew was touch. He couldn't smell either. His only friends were the little bugs he felt crawl out from the cracks of the walls he kicked, when he shouted in frustration at his temperament. Something that could never go away. Even Kikyo's technology would not work on him, because it required extensive years of training beforehand.
Eventually, his family stopped efforts of rehabilitating the boy altogether and quit caring about him. He lived in the shadows in spite of his name. Used as the other siblings punching bag, the only people Illumi really trusted were the butlers who brought his meals and bathed him. But even they felt cold in more ways than one.
At 21 years old, and without getting into detail, Illumi was the successful result of longtime experimental abuse from nearly everyone he knew, which wasn't much. He was now allowed to go outside, which was the greatest mercy that was ever given to him. He loved how soft the flower petals felt on his fingertips as his hands gently glazed them in childlike curiosity. The freedom he felt when he skinny dipped in the lake behind the mansion, the cool, bottomless pit that seemed to never end, and he could stay at the very bottom, if he wanted to. Unfortunately, Killua found out he was trying to drown himself so now he was watched while outside. He didn't care. It was all magical and new. He'd stay outside the garden for hours on end, til he was prodded to go back inside. Then he'd kick and scream until he was knocked out, and in morning, he'd live it all again.
Right before the routine began to bore him, a newcomer appeared in his life. A new butler, to be exact. Illumi was out attempting to make flower crowns in the garden when he was greeted not with a harsh tug or shove, but with a light, honest tap on the shoulder. Illumi turned his head. The stranger had placed something on his head. A circle of petals adorned Illumi's head. Not used to this, Illumi quietly curled himself into a ball and started hyperventilating. No one was ever this nice to him before, so of course he had to react. He felt a body lay down next to him. It was quiet for a while, then Illumi stopped growing weary of him, replacing the fear with curiosity. Cautiously, Illumi untangled himself from his position to kneel on the ground by the stranger.
Trembling, he put his hands to where the strangers chest was, and it heaved up and down slowly, it was peaceful. He glided his hands up to where the stranger's face was and felt it up and down to get a feel of what he looked like. Smooth and strong. The lips of the stranger were the last to be touched and when he did, he felt a smile form under his fingers. The stranger suddenly got up and kissed the back of Illumi's hand. His lips lingered there until-
"That's enough, Hisoka."
Hisoka removed himself from Illumi and stood up to bow to Silva.
"My deepest apologies, sir~"
"Normally, I would have fired a butler for acting out of line, but for you, I'll make an exception. Illumi is a special case."
Hisoka stared at Illumi, who was now too indulged in the rough patterns of the grass to pay any mind to the conversation, or him for that matter.
"I expect Illumi in his bed by ten o'clock. You know what to do."
Hisoka could almost scoff at the way Silva addressed his son. He would frown, even furrow his eyebrows, if he cared. But he was on his own goalless agenda, and had no time for empathy. Hisoka exhaled a soft chuckle from his stomach and kneeled down to pick up Illumi.
