Kokichi had one job. Not two, not three, one. It was summer time, and what could be better than going to the beach? Well according to Ouma, nothing was complete without his rat-like attitude and his mischief personality. He'd gotten in trouble for drawing clowns in the sand. It was 2 am when he did this, and he covered the entire beach with different kinds of clowns. He was pretty impressed with himself until he was found out and given 3 weeks of beach clean-up service. That's when his mischief took him to the next level. Instead of drawing clowns on the sand, he drew clowns on umbrellas, rocks, posts, you name it. And at this point, Kokichi was a rat that could not be tamed.

However until recently, a new life guard was put on duty. Ouma adored his appearance. He was fair, had shimmering golden eyes, dark colored hair, and was always nice to him. Wild right? On the up-side, he intrigued Ouma, and he started listening to the rules and policy's of the beach to impress the new guard. His name was Shuichi Saihara. Kokichi liked the way his name was spelled and often repeated it in his head. Saihara was also the only one who ever put up with Ouma's nonsense. He even tried to see things from Ouma's point of view. The grape began to feel happy when Saihara's presence was around. He found himself being excited to talk to him day after day. Ouma was never bored of Shuichi, and he wished Shuichi never bored of him either. Kokichi didn't understand any of it, but something about Saihara made Ouma's insides flare with desire. It was an odd feeling. Today, Kokichi was determined to find out why.

"Hey, Saiharaaa!" Kokichi dragged a large bag of trash up to Shuichi's life guard post. You'll never guess how much garbage I've collected today!" Ouma chuckled to himself, plopping the bag down.

"Woah, It's almost the size of you!" Saihara peered down from his perch and laughed. The warm sun against the life guard's skin made him illuminate golden rays. He was wearing a white T-shirt and swimming trunks. He hopped down and placed a hand on Kokichi's head. "Good job." Ouma blushed. He was never used to receiving compliments, but it was different when Saihara said them. It made Kokichi's body shiver.

"Ouma-Kun, I've been thinking.." Saihara started, "...Would you possibly like to see the sunrise with me?" Kokichi froze. He was at a loss for words. Instead, he made up a dumb joke to avoid his uncertainty.

"Why? Neehee, you nervous I'll disrupt the beach again?" The grape stuck his tongue out.

"You'll do that no matter what I say. Actually, I thought we could camp out on the sand. You've really been improving Kokichi, I'd like to reward that." Shuichi smiled warmly and held out his hand. The grape felt heat race to his cheeks. He dug his foot into the sand and closed his eyes. This feeling was growing in his chest, and somewhere...lower?!  Hesitantly, Ouma took Saihara's hand and swallowed nervously. Right now wasn't the best time to focus on that.

"I never noticed how delicate your hands were, Ouma-kun." Saihara rubbed his thumb over Kokichi's palm. Kokichi let out a little noise of surprise. How could someone like Saihara catch him off guard? However Saihara either didn't hear it, or ignored it.

"This way, I'll lead you to my camp sight." The life guard started walking down the beach, Kokichi followed. This whole scene was unreal. Why was Saihara so kind? Why did Saihara compliment him like that? The grape felt weak, this unknown feeling was building and he hoped Shuichi couldn't sense it.

"We're here Kokichi." Saihara let go of the other's hand and started building the fire. Kokichi tried to take his mind off of the new sensations and asked a question instead, "W-wont we get kicked out?"

"Haha of course not, don't worry."  Saihara smiled. "Well, unless you try and pull another clown ambush on me." Shuichi laughed and sat down on a mat next to the fire. Hearing Saihara laugh made Kokichi feel a little more comfortable and he sat down next to the life guard. It was getting darker, and Kokichi was thankful that the night would cover most of his uneasiness. They sat for a while as the stars became visible in the sky. The fire burned orange as the dark rolled in. Ouma felt his eyes starting to tire as he watched the flames flicker.
