CALIFORNIA'S POV

Weeks had passed in the prison, and each day Carl and I got more serious. But the only interesting things that ever happened were involving that enemy town called Woodberry. Apparently, they have some scores to settle with us, so occasionally there's some buzz among the group about them. Nobody would let me or Carl in on it, though. They don't think the "kids" should get involved.
That's why we were so surprised when Rick and a few others from our group came back with a bus full of new people.
"We had to bring them back from Woodberry. They all wanted to leave. The Governor wasn't there." Rick had said.
The Governor was the leader of the town. He was cruel and evil, according to the adults.
So, Carl and I stood and watched as newbies poured from the bus, being greeted and shown to their cells.
A group of 5 boys about my age came of the bus laughing at something. Being boys.
One of them nudged the others and nodded towards me. They all smirked.
Before I new they were swaggering towards me with their chests puffed out. I could feel Carl tense up next to me.
"Hey," the first one, a blonde boy with an almost blinding smile said as he held out his hand for me to shake it. I took it politely.
"I'm Jace," he said boldly. "And you are?"
"My name's California." He was cute, but I could tell he was arrogant.
"Ooh. California." One said.
"Like the state?" A black haired one snickered.
"That's a beautiful name," Jace said, again flashing that cocky smile.

I could sense Carl getting aggravated.
"And I'm Carl. Her boyfriend." He stressed the word boyfriend and put his arm around my waist.
"Ah." Jace said, raising his eyebrows. But when Carl looked away, he winked at me. I rolled my eyes.
The rest if the guys introduced themselves. They were Zach, Luke, Josh, and Sterling. They all seemed nicer than Jace, but with each new boy, Carl tightened the grip on my waste.
"See ya around," the black haired one smiled at me.
Once they sashayed away, Carl turned to me with his eyes dark.
"I don't like those guys," he frowned.
"Why? You're jealous?" I made innocent puppy eyes.
"...No, just. I don't know." He turned pink.
"It's okay, baby. I only have eyes for you," I laughed and kissed him on the cheek.
"Good." The determination in his eyes were so cute.

CARL'S POV

The prison was buzzing the next day with the new people. The group of boys occasionally made eyes at Cali, but I made sure to stick next to her. A group of girls our age were also seen flirting with the boys, and California and I steered clear of them.
After lunch I was sitting in my cell when there was a light tap on the door. I expected it to be Cali, but to my disappointment, it was that mean girl that had kissed me on the cheek a couple if weeks ago.
"Hey, Carl!" She said perky-ishly. "I never told you my name! I'm Taylor. But you can call me Tay!" Her eyes glinted.
"Some of my friends here wanted to meet you!" Suddenly the group of girls popped out from behind her and filled up my cell.
"Oh. Uh.. Ok," I said, taken back.
The girls introduced themselves on by one, all flirting with me. At least, I think it was flirting. I wasn't good with that kind of stuff.
"So.. Do you have a girlfriend?" The last one asked. The others leaned in eagerly. They were like a mob of obnoxious cheerleaders.
"Yes," I said. "It's California." I smiled at the thought of her.

CALIFORNIA'S POV

I was walking to Carl's cell to hang out a bit, but when I got to the door, his room was flooded with girls. I could see him over their heads looking confused and oblivious that I was there. I'm sorry to say, but I eavesdropped. I just kind of stood behind the group and they didn't know that I was there either.

CARL'S POV

When I confirmed who my girlfriend was, their faces were full of jealousy, surprise and disgust.
"California? I thought you said she wasn't your girlfriend when we first came." Taylor said coldly.
"Well, she is now,"
"That chick with the blonde hair? Ew! She's ugly and weird. She sometimes dresses like a boy. Why do you like HER?" One of them said. The other girls all murmured an agreement.
"Yea. You really need to dump her. She seems kinda goth. Did she beg to go out with you or something?"
Anger flooded through my veins. Cali was perfect and beautiful. They can't treat her like that!
"Excuse me?" I roared. "Cali is the best thing to ever happen to me! She's perfect! She's kind, beautiful, smart, sweet, cute, funny, and caring!" The list went on. "I can't believe you would say that! My girl has been through the toughest shit and she is still so loving! I bet if any one of you went through with a fraction of what she has, your heart would be even colder than it already is! You wouldn't be able to take it! California Teal is the most strong and perfect girl I know and you talk about her like she's trash! So shut the hell up and go away!" My face was burning hot and all I saw was red. Every girl had a shocked expression on until Taylor called out to them to come on.
When they all sulked away, I saw Cali standing the doorway. Her eyes were bright and happy as she slowly walked towards me.
"Best thing to ever happen to you, huh?" She giggled.
"It's true." I smiled sadly at her, because she probably heard what they had said about her.
"Are you mad?" I asked her quietly and sat down on my bed.
"Mad? For what?" She furrowed her brow.
"For those girls being all over me. And aren't you upset about what they said?"
She stood in between my knees and ran her fingers along my neck. Electricity sparked through my body.
She laughed. "Why would I be mad about that? You stood up for me. That was the nicest thing a guy has ever said about me. And, I can't blame them from lashing out of me. They're jealous. I'm FABULOUS." She put a hand on her hip and one over her head.
We both chuckled.
"No, but really. If I weren't dating you, I would probably murder your girlfriend. Who can resist you?" Again we both laughed.
I planted a light kiss on her lips and she sighed.
"What is it?" I asked.
"How did I end up with a guy like you?" Cali smiled.
"By jumping on a fence." I smirked.
She rolled her eyes playfully.
"Did you hear that Michonne picked up an old Xbox on a run?!" She said excitedly.
"Does it work?"
"I don't know. I mean, probably. The world may be infested by walkers, but it's not like they eat the Xboxes. It's probably just been collecting dust."
"Well... Wanna go play video games?" I said. "Do you like that kind of stuff?"
"You kidding?" She raised an eyebrow. "They used to be my life. I was a super antisocial," she tucked her hair behind her ear and laughed.
"So was I," I said.
"I wonder which games this one has." She thought aloud.
"Yea. So... Shall we?" I said, bowing and holding out my hand.
"We shall," She respond and took it lightly. "It would be my pleasure!"
I chuckled and we headed out to find the Xbox.

*later playing video games*

I loved hanging out with Cali- She really was the best thing to ever happen to me. I could be myself around her and laugh.
"Hey," she smirked and I came out of my daze. I guess I had been starring at her.
"Oh, uh-" I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Whatcha looking at?" She laughed.
"You," I smiled sheepishly.
We turned our attention back to the Xbox. But every now and then, I stole a few glances at her.
