Seated beneath a large oak tree eating his homemade ham sandwich, the newly transferred student watched as others around him hung out in groups, chatting and laughing as they ate their lunches. Alone, Patrick stared out into the distance at nothing in particular, as he chewed slowly whilst in deep thoughts. Due to his mother's promotion, the young man had to move to Taipei with her. Saddened by the fact that he had to leave all his friends behind to enter into a completely unfamiliar environment on his last year of high school, the 17-year old had closed off from any form of happiness.

Although he was quiet and lacked social communication, his grades were at the top of his class. Even so, his classmates were reluctant to approach him because Patrick gave them a vibe that he disliked any sort of interactions.

Days became weeks, yet he was still a loner. That was, of course, until the gray clouds roaming above him was consumed by a splash of sunshine.

Uncaring of his surroundings, Patrick sat at his usual spot gazing off at a random puffy cloud floating amidst the clear blue sky.

"I like the one shaped like a basketball," someone sitting next to him commented.

Startled, Patrick jolted and gawked at the person, wondering when he appeared. His mouth hung open in reflex, but he closed it to swallow his food.

"You know, it's not good for your digestion if you don't pay attention to what you're eating," the shorter male said with a smile.

Patrick was lost for words, attempting to take in the sight of those gorgeous eyes. W-Who...?

"Oh, where are my manners?" The outgoing lad stuck out his right hand to greet Patrick as though he could hear the other's thoughts. "Hi, I'm..." His introduction was interrupted by the class bell. Without further ado, the boy shot up to his feet and ran off.

Blinking in confusion, Patrick gathered his things and headed to class. Who was that kid? Why is he so happy?

Another school day had ended and Patrick walked home as usual with his feet dragging on the cement sidewalk. The hot weather added to his discomfort, causing his uniform to stick to him because he was sweating bullets.

"Hey!" A voice called out to Patrick making him lift his gaze off the ground to see who it was.

It's that kid from earlier. Patrick recalled.

"Here!" The brown-haired, beaming cutie handed him a chocolate fudge Popsicle. When Patrick didn't respond, he grabbed hold of his hand and placed the icy treat in it. "It'll cool you down. Ah...I have to go back to work." With that said, he hurried back into the tiny shop located just a block from their school.

Hmm...? Patrick gaped at what was in his hand and pushed the Popsicle up to pop open the wrapper; he test-licked the tip. It's good. Wiping his sweaty forehead with the back of his free hand, Patrick continued on his way home as he enjoyed the sweets. Why is that kid always so happy? What is there to be happy about?
