 Part 1 Sean, Year 12:

I never had any friends since I was little. I remember vaguely that I would get bullied by many kids from my class in elementary school. When I started Junior high, things started to get worse. There was a group of popular kids in my English class who started bullying me to the max. They would punch me, kick me and sometimes they'd threaten to kill me if I told anyone about all of this.

The more time passed, I got used to the punching and kicking. I started to get stronger and by the end of Year 7 I completely blocked their attacks. After the summer vacation, when I started Year 8 they started to see me as their friend. Or at least that's what I thought. I didn't really know what it's like to have friends 'cause I've never had any before. I started believing that they desperately wanted forgiveness and they wanted to be my friend. I unwillingly forgave them and we became really good friends.

A few months later they were beginning to act extremely weird. They were forcing me to do drugs and bully others. I told them to stop doing it, but they said that if I don't listen to them, then they will kick me out of the friendship group. I was scared. I knew what they were doing was wrong, but I didn't want to lose them. They were my only friends. I reluctantly listened to them and did whatever they told me to do.

Soon after I started doing really bad things like stealing from others, picking up fights with anyone who talked bad about me and even sending people to the hospital. My friends thought I was going above and beyond and they kept telling me to stop. I, on the other hand, didn't want to listen to them, because they didn't listen to me all those years ago. When I started Year 10 I completely ditched my friends and I joined a gang so I could earn money. Sure it was a small gang that didn't really kill anyone, but I was more than happy to join. After high school I didn't want to go to university because high school is already hard enough and I didn't want to go through another four years of this nonsense.

The gang's leader told me to meet at 6:00pm, in an alleyway near my high school. At first I was kind of skeptical about this whole thing, but I decided that I should join the gang 'cause they can help me improve my fighting skills. When I was at home reading some manga, I saw that the time was 5:49pm. Oh shoot! I thought to myself. I'm going to be late! I didn't want to make a bad first impression, so I ran as fast as I could to the meeting. The school was a ten minute walk from my house, but I still managed to be there right on time. I looked straight into the alleyway, but there was no one there. I scrolled through my phone for a few minutes and then looked at the time. It was 5:07. Where were they? I wondered, and what's taking them so long? Another few minutes pass by and still I see no one in the same alleyway as me.

Then I felt someone's hand on my head. At that moment I panicked and fell backwards, but there was someone right behind me who caught me. I looked up and saw a boy with white colored hair and pale skin. He was wearing a face mask and an eye patch. His other eye that didn't have an eye patch was green and it had a dark circle under it. He was also wearing an earring in one ear.

"Are you ok?" he asked in a gentle voice.

I stood back up and looked at him with an unconvinced look. Then I looked down and I saw that he was wearing red sneakers with white laces. I remember that the leader told me that if I ever get lost, then try to look for someone wearing red shoes and ask them if they can help you find your hat. I looked back up at him and in a very low voice I said.

"Can you help me find my hat?"

He looked at me and started laughing. I was quite mad at him for just laughing at me. He finally stop laughing and asked me,

"You're the new member who just joined our gang right?"

I looked at him with a confused look on my face. Is this dude seriously not going to ask more questions? I mean what if I really lost my hat and need help finding it.

"No, I'm not part of your so-called gang" I stated, "What are you going to do to me?"

"Well shoot, the only thing I can do is kill you." He joked.

I looked at him with my teeth trembling. Suddenly, I had a flashback from the beginning of year seven. I felt like I was in the same alley where I would be bullied by the popular kids. I couldn't control any of these emotions so I started to cry. He crouched down.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." He pleaded.

He hugged me very tightly and kept trying to calm me down. Luckily he managed to make me stop crying. Why was he being so nice to me?  I wondered.

"Are you part of a gang?" he questioned.

"Yes I am." I mumbled, "I am a new member of Gang 43 and I am looking for them."

"Oh so you are the new member of your gang. I know where they are located, follow me."

He suddenly grabbed my hand as we ran to the other alley where the gang was.

He was really fast. He ran as fast as someone riding a bike. That makes me wonder if the other members of this gang are as athletic as him.

"Um, you sure are fast." I commented.

He stared at me for a couple of seconds, then he smiled really awkwardly, showing all his teeth.

"I mean that's why I'm assistant alpha." he chuckled, "Everyone else in the gang except for the Alpha are actually pretty weak."

"Oh." I uttered.

"Don't tell the others that I told you that." he added, "Okay?"

"I promise." I said.

"My name is Kai." he mentioned.

"I'm Sean."

We finally manged to make it to the other alley. I honestly thought that the leader was going yell at me because I was thirty minutes late, but he was actually pretty nice.

"Ah you must be Sean right?  the leader asked, "I'm sorry I didn't give more specific instructions of where to find us."

"It's alright." I responded, "And I'm sorry too for being late."

"Kai can you explain what our gang is for to Sean."  the leader said.

"Sure." Kai replied.

Kai took me somewhere a bit far away from the gang. He held my hand and said.

"Look, this gang is not what it seems to be. We're not a regular gang. Our leader the Alpha grew up in house near a forest. He used to play there for hours everyday since he was little and he didn't have any friends. When he grew older the city counsel announced that their were going to cut down the forest for more land. He was really upset by that so he moved to the big city to start a protest. No one really seem to care about this protest and the city continued to cut down the forest.

"Wow. Do you know why you added me?" I asked.

"I can't tell you that, but if you want to join here is my number."

...

I looked at the slip of paper with Kai's number. I don't if I should officially join, I thought. I was still thinking about the fact that I was crying over a stupid question in front of someone. I was really embarrassed about yesterday, but I really want to join. I want to help Kai and the others to protest against cutting down trees.

End of Chapter One.
