Swoosh!

That was close! Sam said to herself as she managed to save a goal just in time.

Sam could see her brother, Draco, from a distance, his focus fully intent at the game. Slytherin team's best Keeper already graduated last year and they needed to procure a new player that day to match against Gryffindor next week. She could tell it put Draco in a position where he had to choose between blood and what was best for the team.

Samantha didn't care for any of that. She knew about the feud between Slytherin and Gryffindor. Her brother had given her a lecture about it all before she set foot in Hogwarts. All she really cared about was it was fun and she could finally be herself when playing Quidditch. Plus, her brother insisted she should try out for the team anyway.

One of the best Chasers in their team, Adrian, unexpectedly appeared behind Sam from her right and threw a Quaffle through the small space between her and one of the hoops.

Fuck, they're so good, Sam thought.

But the Quaffle didn't get into the hoop. What? How? Did he mean for that to happen? Unless it was meant as a distraction.

And when Sam immediately glanced at her left, her gut was right. She quickly swerved her broomstick to her left and hit the speeding Quaffle thrown by Harper. It almost knocked Sam off her broom.

Sam heard her brother cheered and clapped for her before he whistled to signal the end of the game.

Climbing down towards the field, Sam felt her eyes drawn towards the bleachers where she could see a couple of Slytherin students and one unfamiliar girl. She wasn't sure if the girl was in their house. When she looked closer, the girl had long blonde curly hair and was wearing funny spectacles. She was reading a magazine upside down. But the sight only made her remember about her interaction with a certain Gryffindor.

I should stop thinking about Hermione, Sam thought. She didn't even know why she immediately had a crush on the brunette. Maybe because of her eyes. Or the way she talks.

All she knew that the clash between the two houses hindered Sam from becoming Hermione's friend.

Friend. Just as friends, Sam.

"Wow, Malfoy," Harper cheered, as he landed right before her. "Didn't know you have Quidditch in America."

Sam smiled back. "We don't... actually."

"Really? But you looked like you've played a lot."

"We know about it, though. However, Quodpot is more famous in America."

"A Quod what?" Terrence joined in.

"It's quite similar to Quidditch, umm, the ball is called a Quod, and it actually explodes. So the players attempt to get the Quod into the pot before it does."

Come to think of it, it was a lot more dangerous than Quidditch, Sam thought.

"That's... a bit more fun, to be honest, having something blown right in front of you," Harper added, laughing. The conversation had gone from Quodpot to the Triwizard tournament held two years ago, where Adrian noted that Sam would particularly enjoy the challenges given.

When others had left, Draco suddenly appeared before her. "I guess you will be our Keeper this year then."

"What? Really?" Sam asked, bewildered. She couldn't believe what her brother had said. She missed two Quaffles and tied up with the other contenders for the position. Honestly,  she was just having fun. When Sam saw that Draco didn't budge or follow up that he was only kidding, she realized he was really serious.
