The clearing was loosing its beautiful green color. Red was coating almost every corner, and it was a prominent feature in the eyes of the wolves. They were running in a wild chase, betrayal hung high in the air. Both parties were feeling it, and both had no choice in the matter. As of now, the guilt had not set in yet, but it would be difficult in a while. especially as the families would take in their loss, the friends and lovers trying to live life with a missing piece, and the pack living in fear.
As the predicament, they were in, was not in their hands. No one had meant for this to happen. Frankly, if it wasn't for one little mistake everyone would still be living in ignorance and bliss. Having a strong, loving pack, harmony all around. While seemingly trying to ignore the council that tried to berate their life, and control how packs worked.
The wolves were driven into such a hazing rage, that they didn't understand what was happening. The only thought was of how dare they, how dare the council do this to them. How dare the pack members pledge loyalty to those scums. In a sense, the rage was more consuming because it was their Alphas rage. But betrayal to the alpha meant betrayal to the whole pack. And the wolves spying for the council had committed the ultimate betrayal.
A small wolf was standing at the other end of the clearing observing what was happening on. He had such sadness filling his eyes, that it would break anyone's heart to see them. He shook his head and turned around to leave this massacre behind.
The day would come for the wolves to understand the gravity of what had happened, and by then nothing would be able to be done for the innocent. The deed was done, and after all the wars that shaped the wolves and the council into hatred towards each other, this had been the ultimate game-changer. Even inside the packs, harmony would be hard to come by.
He just hoped that maybe, there would be a chance at peace again. Even if not now, maybe in a few years.
