This is a story about James, Brandon, and Kiyomi (People I know). Just read.
On a misty night, two best friends wearing black hoodies walked along a smooth slightly cracked sidewalk, they both spoke very quietly. "Hey, Brandon wanna come sleepover? It's pretty late." Brandon looked down. "Ahhhh I don't know bro my mom might get worried, but I guess I could stay over the night." James looked at the ground. "Bro, today was crazy." He let out a big sigh. "I really love Kiyomi Brandon." He stopped and looked at Brandon, then at the sky. "What do I do Brandon, what the fuck do I do, I can't stop thinking about her." Brandon didn't say a word, but after a long pause, they looked at each other again then continued walking. James would not shut up about Kiyomi the whole time and Brandon would glare at him because little did James know, Brandon was also in love with her.
(First day of Sophomore year)
On that same day during the morning, James and Brandon both were tired from playing video games all night. They greeted each other at their usual spot, at the broken stop sign. "Heyyyy Brandon!" James jumped onto him. "I don't know why but broooooo I'm mad hype." Brandon got James off his back and turned towards him. He was tired and had huge bags in his eyes. "Brooo watchu meaaaan, I'm tired as fuck though." They looked at each other for a long second then James laughed. "Nigga why you look stupid, mad funny yo." He slapped Brandon's back. "Okay let's get to school baby, YEOOOOOOOOO". They laughed together and headed to school.
On the way to school, they saw their childhood friend Kiyomi, an Asian girl who they haven't seen the whole summer. She was getting bullied by another girl and they both rushed in to help. James threw himself in the middle of the bully and Kiyomi while Brandon stood there feeling helpless. "What do you think you're doing?" James grabbed the bully's shoulder. "It's not cool to bully someone." He lightly pushed the bully back and the bully rolled their eyes, "Whatever," she sucked her teeth. "I wasn't doing shit but okay." She walked away and James looked at Kiyomi and asked. "You okay?" He looked into her eyes, "J-James?" She hugged him tightly then looked over to her side to see Brandon standing there with his hands in his pockets. "O-oh hi Brandon, It's been a long time!" She tried to go in for the hug but instead, Brandon took one of his hands out to go for a handshake. She lowered her arms slowly and looked down at his hand and shook it. "It's really nice to see you, Brandon." She smiled. Brandon felt wrong because from the corner of his eye he could see James staring deeply into his soul. He knew James liked Kiyomi, he knew he shouldn't talk to her, and he knew he shouldn't have fallen in love with her. They all didn't say anything for a while until James scratched his head and said. "This is kind of weird haha, we should all get to class the bells are close to ringing." They all walked together without a word. Kiyomi stared at the ground the whole time, Brandon looked up the whole time and James held onto his backpack straps the whole time. They eventually reached their class and James asked, "You guys both have this class too?" There was no answer. "This year is going to be lit, THE BEST!" They walked into the class and found their assigned seats to be right next to each other, they still did not talk to one another, until lunch came around.
They all got up, James quickly ran over to Kiyomi and asked, "Kiyomi Kiyomi Kiyomi eat lunch with me!" He jumped up and down and she accepted his request. "Okay, but where should we go?" James gave her a suspicious smile and grabbed her arm. "Just come with me!" They left and Brandon stood there, very angry. He was jealous, "Why the fuck did they just leave me like that?" He felt betrayed so he decided to force himself to go and find them. "I mean I don't care, so why the hell am I going? Why the fuck do I care? This shits fucking with my head." He put his hand on his forehead and groaned, "Ah whatever maybe I should just go have lunch alone at our spot." He made a long walk to their usual lunch spot and once he made it through the bushes, he froze, stunned, no words, and expressionless.
