the song "the journey" from "the rescuers"

I like bombastic shit. stuff with climaxes (insert sex joke here). If a songs even a little slow I'll drop it. and this song, well it IS bombastic. yet its soft in a way. It's not quite, but Erie. its haunting. I'll try my best to explain why it had such an effect on me.

(watch the credits sequence if you can find a high quality version, if not just listen to the song.)

penny's in an abusive situation. she was abducted from an orphanage, and is now being forced to do child labor being forced to risk her life in an ocean cave to find a gem for her deranged employer. all while living under dreadful living conditions, in a old house in the middle of an abandoned bijou with uncaring guardians. this little girl is six.

eventually she sends out a cry for help. she just manages to drop a bottled message into the ocean. what follows is a beautiful opening sequence of what looked to be paintings as you see the bottle drift toward the movies protagonists. As a kid I saw the credits as an isolated thing. a beautiful thing, but i was so swept up in them that I didn't see them as part of the rest of the story. Now i see how relevant and tragic it truly is. throughout the sequence your following penny's message in a bottle as it drifts to land. this bottle is this little girls only hope. her only hope. this one bottle is the only chance she has of escaping. you see it in storms, almost getting destroyed by humongous waves, when lighting strikes, the music and sea are shaken by it. sometimes you can barely sea the bottle. and like penny, it seems insignificant and helpless compared to its circumstances. these are beautiful paintings alone, but the music..I don't even know how to describe it. the images and sounds together are almost otherworldly. the song's a desperate cry out for help and rescue. the singers good, but what makes it our the instrumentals. I know nothing about music and I'm already pretending to know more then I do as is so I won't try to explain them. hopefully you can go listen for yourself. cheesy as this sounds, (cheesy as this all sounds), it's powerful, and very ethereal. the only lyrics of the song are these:

Who will rescue me?

Who will rescue me?
Who will rescue me?

I'm lost at sea without a friend
This journey, will it ever end?
Who will rescue me?
Rescue me

_

it's crazy simple. It looks kinda silly on paper, but mixed with all the other stuff It works. It works well. well enough to where I remember the instance and the effect it had on me years ago. once again, please give this a listen and viewing if you can. and Hopefully it holds up the way I remember it.

(mm, so I looked on the all knowing Disney wiki and it say's penny's supposed to represent the Idea that anything can come true with enough faith. so she represents hope. I mean duh. I don't like to say this usually, but Penny really isn't a "character". I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing in terms of this story though.)

thank you for reading. sorry for being all pretentious and such. I really hate how basic everything I write on here is, but oh well.
