PART 4:
"Okay, either we run into the crowd and lose your psychotic parents or we run back through the castle and try to fight them again. Pick your poison dearest." Ramses shakily breathes as he tries his best not to dry heave. I grab both of them and we go through the crowd.
Some scream, some gasp and some cry our names out, excited to see us.
"Ramses do you have any idea where we can go? Hades?" We run through several back alleyways and find ourselves at the crossroads leading into downtown Wellington and up north. We stop, us being the only ones stopped literally in the middle of the road, with hundreds of people walking around every which way.
"Sam-" Hades grabs my wrist. "Look." He points back towards the way we came. Like a flamingo in a flock of pigeons, my dad sticks out from the crowd...which means so are we. He spots us and pushes his way through the hustling and bustling people to get to us.
"Guys...Where the hell are we going?" With Hades' frightened question we are whisked away by Ramses who takes us through several houses trying to get away from my dad.
This next time we see him, there's a huge posse of guards behind him on horses, and low and behold he's riding one too. We try to keep sprinting but it's no use. We stay put in a house that is abandoned, hoping that no one, not even the guards or my dad will find us. I can hear his piercing screams to the guards, saying unimaginable things about us. Every time we hear his voice or a horse go by we jump in our boots.
"Guys.." Ramses whispers as he looks up. We sneak up a floor before we hear my father and guards scream. They found us. Guards make their way up the stairs, with a sword in hands. But, we keep on running, we have to run and jump through several windowsills and houses before there's a dead end. We're surrounded.
"Samantha and you other rats, get down here at once or we will have no choice but to feed you to the sharks!" My father screams over the crying and screaming of the people around us. All three of us, trapped on a balcony with guards on all three sides of us, in front, behind and down we all stop dead in our tracks.
"Okay...so I think it's about quitting time for ol' Ramses here." I grab both their arms as I look up, a laundry string just high enough for him to grab. "I'm afraid that you're going to have to jump," I tell him.
"Hell no princess, I can't just leave you two here- OHHH" He finally gets it. Ramses jumps up right before the guards come to get us. I stand in front of Hades, and I'm able to knock out a few of the guards with my brass knuckles still on. Although, once I step back onto the balcony, it starts to break loose.
"Ramses, we could use your help right about now!" I let Hades grab ahold of Ramses to get up on the roof before I do. More guards come and I'm able to knock a bunch more out just before I jump to grab Hades' hand, and as the balcony falls onto the cobblestone streets, all three of us pile onto the roof with a thump.
We have no time to recollect as more and more guards surround the buildings around us. Without thinking, Hades sprints and jumps on to the next rooftop. We follow behind him; every jump we run and escalate from tall, broad buildings to simple jumps across streets and canals.
After sprinting around, on top and through the city of Wellington we arrive at the docks. Ramses stops us before we move on.
He makes us rush onto a small ferry where we hide from my father and the guards. We all calm down when we see all of them ride right past us. There is an average amount of people aboard the ferry, enough to blend us right in, in case they do come back and see this ferry sailing off. So here we sit, behind a bunch of crates on a ship going God knows where. I look down at my bloodstained hands and brass knuckles and feel ...it felt right. To sock my dad in the face? It felt normal...like I've been itching to do it in the past years. I sit amazed, staring at my father's blood staining my hands."Ramses," Hades runs his hand through his hair. "Where are we going exactly?"
Ramses looks out at the docks and back to Hades and me. "This ferry circles around the whole island of New Zealand."
"We're staying here for this long?!" Hades asks concerned.
"...No. Our stop is Kapiti Island-" I stand up, surprised.
"Ramses!! Are you kidding- That's a long-ass way from here!"
"Yup."
"It'll take days! What if we stop and they catch us or something?!"
"Sam, chill. They didn't see us. They won't know where to go. They'll just circle the kingdom."
"But Kapiti Island- God, Ramses there of all places? It's not-"
"The island is in the 'immortal' boundaries. We'll get off there and sort stuff out from there." I give Ramses the stink eye.
"How would you even know Ramses?" Hades chirps in.
He laughs. "I own a little house out there. I sneak off on Holidays."
"Oh my lord- What are we even gonna do on this stupid ass ferry till then?" Both Ramses and Hades shrug. " That's it. I'm gonna get a room and a drink." I walk off, wiping the blood from my face and onto my coat sleeve.
RAMSES:
Hades and I still sit behind crates on this ferry. Adrenaline is still rushing from running away. We've probably become fugitives by now...Can you imagine? The very own princess...and her two knights... fugitives of her own kingdom.
"Ramses...what will we do? I mean, once we get to the island? You have a house, yeah?"
I nod. "I have a house hidden in a cove. I doubt anyone will find us."
Hades shakes his head and rubs the back of his neck.
"Hey.... don't- don't worry about it. The house is super nice and calm. It'll give us enough time to sort stuff out and hopefully while we're there, the stuff at the kingdom will calm down."
"Yeah, I guess so... I'm just worried..."
"About her?" He nods. "Man," I stand up stretching out a hand to him. "She's tough. Did you not see her just beat the shit out of her dad back in the library? She's fine. Gone or not, you still gotta have faith in her. Plus, she'll probably just drink today away like she always does."
I drag him off with me and we explore the ferry before nightfall.
