In this chapter, the characters are getting to know each other. They can talk to each other, try to kill each other, etc.
Just remember, this is the pre-chapter, so no one is going to be escaping or discovering any information yet besides info about the other beings. Now, let's get into the story line . . . It is about mealtime (1 PM) when some guards come through the doors on one side of the hall. They go to each cell and put food in each one. (There's a tube where they put the food in and it goes into the cell, it's a pretty high tech lab.) The guards then walk back out the door after delivering the food. There are guards outside the door but not inside. They can't hear anything the beings say, for they don't want to listen to the insane ones.
The beings get only one meal per day, so the Ekuranans can still do tests on them. They won't be doing any experiments today though.
This is an idea of what the cells look like:  There are keypads on the doors so only the Ekuranans who have keycards can open them. There is also a wall only at the back of the cells but between each one, there are bars.
