I had seen the cafeteria on the way to the gym, so I know where it is at. I decided not to look for Kayla. Or, for that matter, Mylo.
By the time I get to the cafeteria, it is almost completely full. And with my luck, I bump into what feels like a wall, a tingling sensation hits me when I do. When I glance up, I am surprised by a living, breathing human.
"What the fuck is your problem?" they ask, their tone full of anger.
"More like what's your problem, I only bumped into you," I mutter. I feel a tension envelope the whole cafeteria. The silence of when I stood up to Audrey consumes everyone.
"My problem is that you walked into me," they say. While they are talking, I take in their appearance. Jet black hair, dark eyes, light gray shirt, black skinny jeans, combat boots, and lightly tanned skin.
"Not my fault you didn't see me walking," I state.
"You're too short to see," he tells me.
"I'm six, maybe seven inches shorter than you," I say truthfully.
"Like I said, you're short."
"Five foot seven is not short, you dick," I snap at him.
The anger in his eyes is glared down at me. I hear what sounds like a growl. "I'm not a dick, shortie."
I look him straight in the eyes and say with a voice laced with anger, "Maybe you wouldn't be if you would keep your dick in your pants instead of your personality." With that I turn and walk towards the door of the cafeteria, deciding not to eat today.
The only sound is me throwing the door open and it hitting the wall. Halfway down the hallway is when I hear the door close.
"Only met the dick once and I hate him," I mutter.
"I won't tell him that you said that," I hear an unfamiliar voice say.
I quickly turn and face the voice. "Who the fuck are you? And why the fuck do you care if he knows or not?" I snap at him, still having my anger from before.
"I'm Mylo's twin brother and a close friend to Derek, the guy you just stood up to," he tells me.
"You mean the dick that nobody has the balls to stand up to?" I ask him, my voice still has a hint of anger.
"Until you grew a pair bigger than any guy at this school," he tells me.
"Alec," I hear what sounds like Kayla say. "Would you leave her alone."
"Can't," I hear him say. "And besides, why would I listen to a runt like you?"
"Alec," she says, "please."
Alec wraps an arm around her shoulders. "I can't, I have orders to make sure," he places one of his hands on my shoulder, "this one is perfectly safe."
I hear what seems to be growling coming down the hall. "Fuck," I hear Kayla mutter. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Alec nod.
I roll my eyes and glance back to see what they are so worried about. My eyes land on Derek. "Just fucking great," I mutter. Before he even reaches the three of us, I start walking down the hall.
After a few seconds, I hear him call out, "Wait." I keep walking in the direction that I am going. "Just stop for one second."
"What do you want Derek?" I ask. I pause and turn to face him. "To call me short some more? Or be such a dick that I don't want to eat so I don't have to deal with you?"
An emotion passes through his eyes, but it quickly disappears before I can read it.
"I just wanted to-" he breaks off. My eyes shift into a glare and he clears his throat. "I just-" he stops again.
"You just what?" I snap. Our encounter flashes through my mind again. "You're stopping me from skipping the rest of the day."
"Nevermind, just go ahead. I don't even see why I tried," he mutters.
"Tried what?"
"Nothing, just forget that I even came after you," he snaps.
"Fine. if you want to keep acting this way will all the sudden mood changes, I'll fucking leave," I say, quickly turning to leave. I turn back before I even make it a few feet down the hall. "The only thing you'll be king of, Derek," I say, "is king of assholes."
With that, I turn and walk away. For some reason, my heart feels like it breaks more and more with each step.
Without looking back, I leave the school. Already the first day, and I'm completely over this school and most of the people in it.
I sigh, thinking about how I'll have to go back to Aunt Nyx's. Then an idea hits me, to go visit my dad in the hospital.
