I ran into the small coffe shop where i worked with about two minutes to spear and i geuss it was safe to say i was on time. I walked to the back of the shop to clock in and grab my apron. I grabbed my little white card that had my name on it and slided it accross the panel and put my card back in the slot. I grabbed my apron and tied it around my waist and grab my hair tie from my wrist, bent over and put my hair in a messy bun. I stood back straight and let out a puff of air, i was ready to work. I walked up to the register to see Debrah, the owner of the cafe, tideing the counter up just intime to open it. She must have felt my presence because she turned around and smiled at me
"How are you today my dear" she grinned.
I looked at her with a shy smile and nodded my head at her. She walked over to me and embraced me in a big hug, i then felt another presence behind me. I slowly turned my head to see Derek smileing down at us. Derek was Debrah's son, so he worked here on weekends when he didnt have school. When we finally let go of me she hollard to the back for Kenny, her husband asking if he was ready to open up shop. Assuming he was she walked up to the door unlocking it and flipped the little open sign. We never got customers right away but everyday the same man came at exactly 9:05 am every morning, 5 minutes after we opened. He was one of those friendly customers we got that would sit in the back corner reading his novel while drinking his usual black coffee. Its was 9:03 now and i got the coffee bean machines ready, takeing my washcloth and shineing it up a bit. Derek sat at the register and Debrah and Kenny sat in the kitchen waiting for the next batch of scones and breads to be done in the oven. The little bell at the door dinged indicating that the man was here.. He walked to the counter and spoke with his usual voice
"Your usual today sir" Derek asked
"Yes" he replied unsure if its what he really wanted.
"Would you like a fresh scone" Derek smiled
"Um no im good for today, thank you" he looked so uneasy with himself today which seemed off. I decided to let it go and get working on his black coffee. After about two minutes i walked his fresh hot coffee towards his table and he looked up at me and smiled weakly when i sat it down. I heard the bell ring and i started to walk back to my post. But the man stoped me.
"Wait, you serve me everyday, what is your name".
I smiled at him and took out my pen and note pad and jotted down my name and showed it to him.
"Annabelle, thats my sisters name" he smiled at me.
I smiled back and nodded. I turned around just to be knocked over by someone. The impact made me hit the floor but when i looked up i seen a boy towering over me. I quickly got to my feet, observing his attractive figure.
"Hey!" He screamed
My face turned instantly red and i looked at him.
"Arent you going to fucking apoligize?!" His face was red now and veins popped out of his neck.
I gulped and looked at him, tears filling my eyes.
"do you work here!? Arent you supposed to damn apologize-" he was abruptly interupted by Derek asking if there was a problem.
"Yes i have a damn problem, this girl ran straight into me and cant even fucking apologize?!" He shouted
Derek wrapped my arms around his torso, covering my tear stained face into his chest.
"She can't apologize to you, you dumbass!!" Derek shouted in the man's face.
"Yes she fucking can its not that damn hard!!!" He screamed
My tears finally stopped, i looked up at Derek and i know what he was about to do. I looked at him with pleading eyes begging him not to. But he did it anyway.
"Maybe she can't because she's mute you dickhead!!!!" Derek screamed.
It was dead silent in the shop. No one spoke. Kenny walked out from behind the corner walking over to the man.
"Sir i think its time you leaved" Kenny sighed.
"Yeah." The man calmly.
He sounded better quite like that. He glanced at me one more time before exiting the shop. Everyone sighed, my tears were stopped by now and i dried them off with the sleave of my shirt.
"Anna, honey, you can leave for the rest of the day if you would like" Debrah said.
I just nodded walking to the back to take off my apron. I know i couldnt fight with her, knowing i wouldnt win. I clocked out and hung up my apron then walked back to the front of the store, they all looked at me with apologetic looks. I hugged the three of them and i walked out the door walking back to my apartment.
