"Did you think I overreact?" Hermione asked exasperatedly, pacing in circles in the Gryffindor common room.

It was still raining cats and dogs outside. And Hermione felt even colder by what she did this morning to Sam. She was filled with mixed emotions at the time. She wanted to believe Sam had good intentions. But it was all too good to be true.

"You want my honest opinion, Hermione, I think... you did," Ginny said.

"Finally! My sister has made sense!" Ron enthusiastically announced. Ron was leisurely eating the licorice candies he got from her mother through mail.

"Oh, shut up, Ron," Ginny spat back.

"Merlins," Hermione groaned, as she held a hand on her forehead, already making her head ache. Then she looked at her friends, troubled, "I did, didn't I?"

Everyone was silent. Until Harry finally blurted out.

"It was completely my fault. I, ummm, decided to put some decoy Chasers towards Sam... but instead of Quaffle, Bludgers were thrown at her instead, but just to distract her. Merely just to distract her."

Hermione glared at Harry like she was dying.

"Actually," Ginny butted in. "It was my idea, Hermione. I'm sorry. We were almost losing to them. Like I said, it was just a game."

Then Hermione melted into the cushion nearby as Ron continued, "Maybe you just saw Sam hitting the Bludgers back to us. And assume the worse."

When Neville sat beside her on Potions class the following day, Hermione immediately felt even more guilty. She looked around and saw Sam reading from a parchment on the corner, sitting beside another Slytherin.

Even during their Ancient Runes class together that morning, Sam avoided her the whole time. Hermione's eyes couldn't also help but notice Sam's hands in bandages.

Okay, I really do need to apologize, Hermione thought. Hermione's eyes were all puffy and also with eye bags due to crying the whole night resulting to lack of sleep. Who would even sleep through doing something foolish like what she did yesterday?

When Hermione turned to look at Harry and Ron, probably searching for some assistance, they were also exporting questioning glares at her.

Okay. Maybe later. Right now, Sam's just doing what I wanted her to do. To stay away from me. I just need to get to her first.

When she looked back at Sam, Hermione expected to meet those ice gray eyes of hers as always, but this time, she didn't. Sam was just like an ordinary Slytherin student. And Hermione felt so horrible inside for losing her. Hermione felt so horrible that she took Sam for granted.

Hermione went straight to the library after class and waited for Sam. Sam would always like to read with Hermione. It has always become their evening routine before dinner and then before sleep.

But this time was different. This time, no one came except for a couple of Ravenclaw students who wanted to get outstanding remarks from their classes.

Hermione sighed, giving up, and opened her book. But she couldn't get herself to focus. All she could ever think about was why she did what she did.

When the dinner started that evening, Hermione couldn't help but steal glances at Sam from the Slytherin table, her platinum hair was down, as she ate while reading the same old book with no title. Hermione then realized how much she missed her, how she missed Sam's enthusiastic voice, and those mesmerizing smiling eyes.

"Had any luck?" Ron suddenly asked, as he noticed Hermione's dilemma beside him.

Hermione just shook her head as she took a spoonful of chocolate pudding, stabbing so hard as if she was murdering the dessert.

The next day, Hermione decided to take the comfort room after Herbology. She had to get rid of her tired eyes. She hadn't had proper sleep since last Sunday.

Hermione was about to leave when she saw few Slytherin girls about to enter inside the comfort room.

Scared that Sam was probably with them, Hermione locked herself inside the cubicle and waited through.

The Slytherin girls were washing their hands and probably refreshing their makeups until one of them mentioned Sam's name. Hermione pressed her ear on the cubicle's door, suddenly curious.

"Do you think Sam will like me?" One of the girls with a squeaky voice said.

"Who?"

"Samantha Malfoy, Draco's half sister. She's kinda cool, right?"

"I don't know. Maybe."

"I heard she's into girls. And I'm also into girls. And we're both in the same house. So maybe... I don't know."

"Girl, she's definitely not into Slytherins. She hangs out with Harry's friends."

"Well, not anymore, because that Mudblood girl turned her down. I don't even know what she sees in her."

"Mmmm. Fair point... But don't get your hopes up. Draco told Pancy who told Harper who told me that Sam is still getting over her ex lover from America."

"Oh... well, that just makes me want to try harder." Then they giggled.

When they left after a few moments, Hermione came out of the cubicle and washed her hands nervously. Hermione held unto the sink as she looked at herself in the mirror.

When all her thoughts seem to have drifted back to nothing, all her instincts about Samantha was right. Samantha was definitely aiming to be more than Hermione's friend. Or was it only her imagination.
