Chapter 12

Nova watched as the trees stopped moving and they pulled into a parking lot. Jared turned around to face Nova, "Ready to go get some clothes for the next few weeks?" Nova nodded, grabbed the card from her bag and pushed the door open stepping out with Chase behind her.

Jared pulled her to his side, he looked down at her and wrinkled his nose, "You still smell like him. We need to get you changed." Nova looked behind at Chase who smiled softly at her.

Nova looked up at the store and then back at Jared, "What am I supposed to be getting in here?"

Jared shrugged and smirked, "Lingerie would be a good start."

Nova shook her head and then looked around the mall, "Can we just get some things there? I only need things for a few weeks and I don't want to spend too much of Max's money."

Jared shook his head and threw his hands up, "Fine, whatever. Let's just hurry up then. I need to get back to my pack." Nova sighed and walked over to the store. Grabbing clothes she tried to stick to a few items she could wear together. Pushing the cart she made sure to grab some undergarments as well as some toiletries.

Heading down the grocery aisle she watched as Jared stayed behind on the phone and only Chase came with her, "Max said you would do this," Nova looked at him confused, "Only get the bare minimum and try not to spend money."

"I have clothes at home," Chase just followed behind and also threw things into the cart, "I hope you aren't making Max pay for all that."

"Well it's my payment to watch you. Also I think we should get you more clothes. Stuff for you to train in. Nolan wants me to make sure you can properly defend yourself if you need to."

Nodding Nova just pushed the cart back towards the clothes and past Jared, "Are you finally done?"

"Almost, sorry. I forgot some work out clothes and sneakers then I will be," Nova smiled as Jared wrapped an arm around her side and walked with her over to the last section she needed. She leaned into his side and smiled up at him when he placed a kiss on her head. Getting the last few things she needed they all walked up to the register.

Nova helped put everything into the car but returned to the back seat with Chase making sure to return the card to her bag. They began driving but not long into the drive a phone started going off. Nova quickly realized it was hers and dug into her bag looking for it, pulling it out she smiled and answer the call quickly, "Mom! How are you?"

"I am good dear, but how are you?"

"I'm okay. I mean I was shocked but it's okay."

"Max told us everything," Nova heard her mom's tone and wanted to cry.

"I know dad is working so when he gets home can you tell him that in a couple months a package is coming. It was a last minute purchase and really just a surprise but it will have Max's name on it," Nova tried her best to get her mom to understand.

"Nova..."

"Yeah mom. It's for Christmas but I just couldn't wait to order it. I need to go now though. I will make sure to call you soon. Maybe tomorrow," hanging up the phone Nova sighed and then stuck it back into her bag.

"We are here. I am going to show you to your room and then I need to get some things done. You can have lunch in your room. Then me and you can have dinner together later," Nova nodded at Jared as they all got out of the car. Jared gave Nova a tight hug before he lifted her chin to look him in the eye, "You need to tell him you are here. And then that's it. Call him now."

Dropping her chin he stepped to the back of the car to point out where things needed to go. Nova nodded her head and then reached into her bag at her feet. Looking down at her phone she clicked on Max's number and brought the phone to her ear. After ringing just once he picked up the phone, "Nova? What is going on? Are you okay?"
