Shit. I hated being late but I couldn't really help it. My shift ended but the guy that was supposed to show up, came late "because of traffic". Houston does have traffic but the guy lives in the same neighborhood just a few streets down.
I scavenged my closet and found the only clean polo in there. All of my clothes were on the floor, so I just picked them up and threw them in my laundry basket. I grabbed my wallet, keys and a bottle of cologne downstairs with me. I sprayed the cologne and set my hoodie down.
I really needed to leave. My best friend since pre-school, Alexis would kill me if I pussied out. I had told my mom that we were going to a concert. But in reality, we were going to a party. It's gonna be really hard to convince my mom since I don't have any tickets for any concert.
I could hear Mom in the kitchen talking with some of her friends. I creeped as silently as I could to the door but I could hear my mom's footsteps. I sighed.
"Mijo, when are you coming back?" Mom caught me at the door. I turned around and faked a smile.
"I don't know but I'll text you when we are going to be late back home," I replied.
"Be careful," Mom simply said and went back to cooking in the kitchen. I heard laughter from the rest of her friends and shrugged.
I closed the door behind me and went to my car. Before I got in it though, I got a text from Alexis.
where tf are u?
omw, calm down
u better be here
i will, chill out
be there soonI put my phone back in my pocket. I unlocked the car and entered.
I turned on the engine and backed up from the driveway. Alexis didn't live very far but I didn't want her mad at me.
I pulled over at her house and honked the horn. A light flickered off and Alexis walked out. Alexis was wearing all black. Black blouse, black jeans, black flats. It was simple but very stunning.
Alexis opened the door and sat in the passenger seat. "About time you showed up," she said.
"Hello to you too," I replied. "Ready?"
"Yeah."
I got back on the road and drove to the party. Jaire Prescott was holding a big party that was highly talked about. Lucky enough for us, we were invited and apparently everyone is bringing booze.
"Can you put on some music?" Alexis asked.
"Here," I passed her my phone. After a few moments, she chose a song and turned up the volume.
"She tried to pull on my strings/ Shawty I come from the team," Alexis sang along. She seemed a little stressed but I decided not to talk about it. I don't want her to have a breakdown and then have to listen to her rant. We were going to a party. She could at least have fun.
"We should go to his concert one day," Alexis said.
"We should, but we would have to wait for probably another tour either that or go to one in another state," I replied. "I could drive us there."
"But we could stay there for longer than one concert," Alexis pointed out.
"I mean... you're not wrong but like we would have to miss so much of school just for that."
