Journal Entry #1
May 26, 2038 12:00 am – Theodore
My name is Theodore Rockwell. I'm 19 years old and running from the government as we speak. It's dark in the spring water bottling factory, in a tiny office hidden behind wreckage. I stir to the cold room around me.
"Teddy? Are you awake?"
Rose gave me the nickname Teddy when we were about 3-years-old. So, from then on, I called her Rosie and she called me Teddy. Unless I got in trouble then I got the FULL name said out loud.
"Yeah, you okay Rosie?" I asked.
I sit up to see my best friend shivering from the cold night air. I walk over to our supplies and pull out a very holey, wool blanket to keep her warm.
"I'm worried about my parents and your parents Teddy." I pull her close to hug her. Me thinking the same way she was, I tried to be as positive as possible.
"Everything will be okay Rose, they'll make it out."
And the girl with me, her name is Rose Burroway and she's 18 years old. Long brown hair and bright blue, sweet eyes that could make you change your mind about anything.
Our parents were best friends... Before they took them from us.
I remember the day both our parents had been taken.
It was a Friday night in March. It was kind of cold but not cold enough to call it winter.
We were all having dinner together and laughing about something my dad had said earlier and then, there was banging on the door.
"OPEN UP IT'S THE POLICE!"
Our parents looked at each other and they grabbed both me and Rosie and put us in the attic so that the police couldn't find us. As we hid in the attic, all we heard was screaming and their bats hitting bodies. I wanted to run downstairs to beat the shit out of whoever was taking our parents from us. We did hear footsteps below us and a bunch of breaking glass. I kept hearing the cops ask," WHERE ARE THEY?? WHERE ARE YOUR CHILDREN???" Our parents didn't tell them. And we never got the chance to say our good-byes... They were taken, like ghosts after Halloween night, never to be seen again.
We waited what seemed like hours till we came out of the attic to see what was left of my house. And everything was smashed or broken. We couldn't believe how the couch had been broken, the TV smashed, even the pictures of my family. Nothing seemed salvageable, but I had to look strong for Rose.
Rosie covered her mouth as tears slipped from her eyes and she softly cried. I, not knowing what to say, search the house for anything with a sign of life or anything to give me hope of my parents.
"We need to find a hiding spot, right now." I say in panic. Everything hit me all at once, the fact my parents might be dead soon hit me like a truck. I start running up my stairs looking for backpacks and essentials to pack.
"Wait what?" Rose was in shock still and didn't hear everything.
"You go look in the basement for anything we could use to survive." I say rushed.
"I'll check the pantry for some food we can pack!" Rosie yells up the stairs.
As fast as the flash, I bolted through every room in the house to find anything that could be used or taken.
After packing and finding essentials, we were on the run from the government for what seemed like weeks.
