It was the year 1881. My Parents, my seven year old sister, Elizabeth, and I, Clara Devlin, walked along the coast line, on a cool, windy, Saturday. I was thirteen. We had been walking a long time, so we walked for another few minutes, and then my parents wanted to sit down, but me and my sister kept playing, and running around. We played tag. She was it. We were running, as one does when one plays tag, and I ran onto the boardwalk. She cornered me and I had nowhere to go. I was standing at the edge and Elizabeth tagged me, a little too forcefully. I fell back into the water and I saw Elizabeth trying to reach out to help me, and my parents screaming frantically for help, they knew I couldn't swim.

As the water fully enclosed my body, I started going down, and I began thinking.

What if I never come up for air? What if I never get to see my family's smiling faces again?

I tried to pushed the bad thoughts away and forced my legs to kick upward. I was never taught to swim, so of course it didn't work like I wanted it to. I only got about two inches when my lungs started screaming for air. Still, the surface was impossible to reach. I tried propelling myself upward, to reach top but, much like last time, my attempts failed.

My murky surroundings started fading from view. The last thing I saw was my wavy, dark brown hair floating around me before I sunk into unconsciousness.

Sorry if there's any errors and I'm sorry it's short. Like I said, it's my first story. Anyway I hoped you liked it! Also I'm not sure when tag was invented (or at least called tag.).
