Prologue
THEY say, there is an explanation behind this world’s mysterious phenomena. Minsan mapapaisip ka na lang talaga kung tayo nga lang ba sa earth ang nabubuhay sa buong universe or something unexplainable out there is living aside from us. I’m also wondering how William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is quite the same as Greeks’ Pyramus and Thisbe, or how the scientists are sure that the light travels faster than the sound.
Sometimes although we don’t admit it, the answers to our boundless questions are already shown right In front of us. We just deny the fact that those answers are beyond our expectations, in short hindi yun yung gusto nating paniwalaan, that’s why we tend to extremely feel the discontentment.“Teacher si Justine po kinuha yung pink teddybear ko.”
I was distracted from my daydream when the five year old Moira pulled my sleeves telling me that her brother took her favorite pink teddy bear.
“Teacher please help me get my teddy bear to kuya.” Nanggigilid na yung luha niya habang pinakikiusapan akong kunin sa kuya niya ang stuffed toy. I granted her a wide smile and suddenly humarap ako sa kuya niya.“Ok Justine, please give it back na to Moira, don’t make her cry. Sige na give her the teddy bear na.” sabi ko sa kanya na may kasamang tono ni Ms. Kris Aquino. I extended my right hand and showed my palms as if I’m taking the teddy bear to him. He didn’t mind what I said instead he refused.
“No I won’t! And this is not a teddy bear in the first place, it’s a panda!” Justine hugged the stuffed toy tightly, yelled at me those words and continued playing with it. Pero bigla ko narealized na tama nga naman, hindi iyon bear, panda nga iyon.“ ‘Wag mo nga sigawan si teacher just like what you did, you’re an evil person kuya!” And now Moira stood up and wiped her tears away. Hinawakan niya ako sa braso at hinatak kung saan.
“Where are we going Moira?” I curiously asked.
“Somewhere away from kuya.” She gestured her hands as if she’s casting a spell.
“Where exactly is the place away from your kuya?” I knelt down to face her closer.
“Hmmmm…. I Don’t know?” napakamot siya sa ulo niya then natawa nalang sa sinabi niya.Moira is indeed a five year old girl but I see that whenever someone steps her limitations she would immediately turn to a teenager who would any to avenge herself, while Justine an eight year old boy who’s although loves to tease her little sister, is a very clever child na kahit minsan ay pabalang sumagot ay di mo maikakailang may punto siya gaya ng kanina. Moira and Justine are my tutees every weekends, doon ko kinukuha yung extra income ko for my allowance every month.
Since I’m in the third year of my college, mas lumalaki ang mga bayarin that’s why I need to earn extra, hindi lang ako dapat umasa sa allowance na ibinibigay sa akin ng university.
Well I am not an orphan nor am broke, I just couldn’t resist relying onto my parents, especially dad. I’d rather choose to look for an extra job than to ask money from them, in short I wanna show them how independent I am, the reason? Well it’s a long story.--peeb peeebbb—peebb
“ Yes nandiyan na si daddy!” moira immediately shouted as she heard the loud honking from her father’s car.
I took my phone to check what the time already is, I see that it’s six o’clock and it’s time for me to go so I packed my things and bid goodbye to Moira and Justine.
“Uuwi ka na ba Ms. Gerardo?” Mr. De Vera, Moira and Justine’s father asked me.
“Opo sir, anyway six o’clock na rin po and I see that you need time with your kids alone.” Humarap ako kay Moira at pinisil ang pisngi niya at hinapo ang ulo ni Justine indikasyon na aalis na ako.
“Ok, if that’s the case I’ll ask Manong Pingkoy to drive you home.”
“No, it’s alright sir besides may dadaanan pa naman po ako sa department store para sa mga dadalhin ko sa Europe as an exchange student, mukhang matatagalan din po bago ko ulit mabisita si Moira at Justine. Maraming salamat nalang po sa lahat ng tulong niyo.” I strongly declined dahil ayaw kong abusuhin ang kabaitan ng pamilya niya at isa pa mas gusto ko mag-commute para mas makapagisip-isip ako.
