We had done this before, multiple times. Nia had the power to look into people's thoughts and see through their memories by just looking at them. My power required to touch and hers required thought. So we often worked together to help people with whom physical healing was of no help.

As her eyes glowed, mine responded in kind. Our matching hazel eyes were lit like night lights against the fading daylight while Rue watched and stood guard. I figured that Nia told her what was going to happen. Our eyes glowed but they were sightless, we were watching Nox's memories and thoughts...the world around us faded as we watched what had happened while he was gone. Those few hours felt like eons.

Alpha Lenox POV

Wolfsbane.

Silver.

Rotting plants and stagnant water.

Rotting flesh.

Rusted metal.

These scents invaded my nose like a swarm of hornets, refusing to let up. They made my head pound and my stomach churn. My eyes as heavy as my body. My legs and arms were stiff as I tried to move them. It felt like a demon attack, where they invaded in the night and held you captive while paralyzing you to torment you for their sick pleasure. But this was no demon.

No. This was a witch. And a powerful one at that.

My eyes struggled to open and when they did, I almost wished they hadn't. The room was dim and the bars were rotting but strengthened with magic. Metal magic by the look of it. Each witch had a choice when they first receive their wands as to which type of magic they would like to specialize in. A few chose inanimate objects that could be used for everyday life such as wood, iron, electricity along with the four elements.

The room was only lit by a distant torch, but it was enough to see what was in front of me. Bushels of wolfsbane stacked all around me. It's dried purple flowers look almost harmless. Beside it was a body. Lying still and I felt no life from it.

My shackles rattled as I tried to move my limbs. My neck felt raw and when I tried to touch it, my fingers felt a sudden burn. In my weakened state, the silver collar was slowly burning away at my skin. It was then that I realized that my limbs were shackled to the wall by silver chains and manacles. My wolf was groggy but slowly waking up to assess the damage and danger.

I could hear footsteps, slow and deliberate coming my way. I looked around as my eyes focused. I was used to death and prisoners but what I had never seen before were prisoners left to rot in the cells. There were dead bodies chained still and rotting. There was no chance of having good ventilation and the sight seemed to trigger my sense of smell to kick into overdrive.

I swallowed the bile that rose in my throat. I studied the room, trying to see what I can use to aid my escape. I couldn't feel her because of the silver and all the plants around me. But I knew she was okay. I would've felt it in my soul if something fatal had happened to her.

The body laying far from me was groaning. I could tell it was male and not alive.

Vampire.

I sat up slowly while listening for the footsteps only to hear none.

"Looking for me, mutt?" a sickly sweet sing song voice ... female...she smelt like death.

I catch a glimpse of her and immediately growl. Hair as black as night. Skin as pale as the moon and eyes of toxic green.

"YOU! What do you want?!"
