The next morning I try to have everything done on time. I can't actually say that am looking forward to my first day of college but after the excessive amount of pleas and ' bargaining' from my mum I had no choice but to go. Truth be told back in high school I didn't even bother to make friends because of all the moving that had happened and thus this, of course, inhabited more to my social life which by the way is not very social and I like it that way.

"Kaylee !! honey would you please hurry up, you don't want to be late for class"

I hear her yell from downstairs

"Am coming" I retort back

I quickly rummage through my closet and settle on wearing one of my old pair of jeans which suddenly feel tighter as I slip in them, this will do for now I don't have time to select another. Then I pull out a white T-shirt and some grey sneakers

" KAYLEE!!!" She practically screams this time, loud enough for even the neighbors to hear

"Geez am coming"

Just as am about to head out of my room I grab my hoodie 'just in case' and stand in front of the mirror frantically eyeing my outfit. 'Not bad' I mentally thought. It's not like I really cared about what I wore as long as it covered the 'essentials'
Satisfied with my outfit I quickly rush downstairs and immediately am greeted with the baking smell that makes me suddenly realize my hunger

' she made cupcakes'

I reach for one and just as I am about to devour it,I feel a hand smack my shoulder

" Kaylee those are not for you " she takes the cupcake from me and places it in the container amongst the rest

" Mum! I was about to eat that, surely it wants to be in a better place" I say making a frowny face. Which makes her rows her eyes at me

"You can have the pancakes, these are for the neighbors "

"Huh???" I give her a skeptical look
"And you're taking them before you leave for college, think of it as a gift...our welcoming gift to them " she adds

Now that actually made me drop my fork before I could even shove it through the pancake .plus wasn't it the other way round my dear so generous mother always wanting to make the first impression

"WHAT!" I yell
I don't think she gets the whole 'i-don't-want-to-make-friends' situation

"No am not "

I say whilst carrying my plate of pancakes and leave the room

"Young lady do not walk away from me "
She follows me to the living room but I raise the tv volume up so that I can't get what she's saying

"Kaylee Preston! You will do as I say" she says warningly with folded arms and grabs the remote then shuts down the TV

Argh I know that look very well 'she's gone full-blown - parent mode'
Its the ' do-as-i-say-or-else' look
My mum is friendly all the time but then their times when  the women really become's vicious and you wouldn't want to cross her

"Kaylee am doing this for your own good " she settles next to me
" You need to get out a little and make some friends, you can't lock yourself up in that room all the time"

"Yes I can " I answer a little too eagerly

"Well that's too bad because you are taking these cupcakes to the neighbors whether you like it or not," she says with a stern face.
Yep, I am not winning this battle so it's best to just oblige with her request.

"Fine," I say irritatingly
And continue to eat my pancakes which turned cold by the way
'great! way to start this awful day with cold food'
