...to the truths and to deception...

It was never the lies that brought him to his knees. It was the truths he never wanted to be known that would silently tear his heart apart irreversibly.
The Uchiha was a man of very few words; he always believed that actions spoke louder than words and empty promises we can never fulfill.
However, he was a patient being. But in contrast to his peaceful nature, most people who were acquainted to him knew that angering him meant getting hurt. Either verbally or physically. He could be hard when he needed it and even more to protect what he thought was right and dear to his heart. He was also as proud as one could become; he thought of himself as someone superior. Or at least that was his façade he displayed in front of anyone because he needed to appear strong if he wanted to be left alone not only in this organization but in his overall life. Nobody would trouble him if he was stronger than most or even all.
He forced himself to consider himself a being so proud he would never allow for him to be abused or brought down by anyone or anything. He could not let anyone insult him or abuse him without it having some sort of consequences coming from his side. Nobody had the right to harm him in any way and even the simple act of touching his skin could not be allowed without his verbal consent.
That was the persona he had created when he took the decision which led him to this life outside of Konoha. It differed so very much from his original character; a peace-loving man.
He just had to appear that much stronger than everyone else if he wanted to preserve his peace. Distancing himself from everyone and appearing detached from everything was his barrier, his protective charm that worked wonders.
He knew himself very thoroughly since he spent most of his time in his own company, by himself. Being alone had its advantages. He knew his own strength and limits incontestably. Even though Itachi was renowned for his genjutsu, he knew he was far stronger than that. He had other abilities most people were unaware of because, usually, he did not even need to go so far as to bring them out in order to win a fight.
Being a member of Akatsuki was not something he strongly wished to be, but, in order to protect the one he held dear, he had to be in this organization, nevertheless. His little brother was, after all, the only living member of his family. He had no other choice beside fleeing Konoha and joining that criminal organization because he knew that they would somehow involve both Konoha and Sasuke. He needed to keep an eye on them and there was no better part for him to play than infiltrate the Akatsuki as he was already considered a dangerous criminal in the eyes of everyone, his little brother included.
He had killed them. He still had troubles facing the fact that the whole Uchiha clan had been erased by none other than him but, at the same time, he had no other choice than to overcome that event if he wanted to become even stronger to protect what was left of his very few treasures.
To be completely honest, the only time he came close to regret was that he had made Sasuke hate him so very much he wanted to kill him to avenge his family and the Uchiha clan. However, he had learned to live with it just like how he had to acknowledge how he decimated his whole clan some years ago.
He was obviously aware that he had stopped the rebellion his father Fugaku wanted to cause and thus saved Konoha from being split and burned down by a civil war of some sorts but he still resented himself for he was cold-hearted enough to kill his family and friends. That side of his somehow scared even Itachi, no knowing the limits of his own detachment.
