As if on cue, the bell of the front door ringed as a familiar face entered the restaurant, briskly walking over to where her 'mom' stood giving her a light peck on the cheek.
"Morning mom." Ianthe would say as she walked to the kitchen to help her mom prepare for the day.
"Morning Ianthe. You seem especially happy today. Did you find a boy or something?" Her mom would tease, heading into the kitchen to find Ianthe putting her hair up and washing her hands before starting to organize the kitchen.
"No.. I didn't find a boy mom, why do you keep bothering me about that?"
"Because then I could tease you, tell you not to be out too late, not do things your not supposed to... Have another helper around the restaurant.... Keep you busy..." She'd mumble the last bit under her breath as she washed her hands. Ianthe couldn't help a grin as she rolled her eyes, hearing the last remark.
"I heard that..." She'd say, earning a light laugh from her mom before they both got busy organizing food and cleaning dishes.
"So.. What do you want to eat for breakfast? Or are you going to surprise me?" Her mom would lean back, smiling lightly.
"Surprise you." Ianthe would grin.
"So, that's why you where so cheerful this morning."
"Mhm.. Found a new recipe, thought I might try it out."
"Hm.. Better be tasty." Her mom would tease.
"Sh...! It will be!" Ianthe wold playfully glare at her before starting to cook. Her mom would lightly laugh as she watched Ianthe cook.
"I missed it when you where a little turd running around with hyper energy. You where so adorable then. Now look at you, you're almost 13 already.."
"Heh... Yeah.. Those where the nice fun days..." Ianthe would sigh, smiling gently as she thought back to the nice memories.
"Now.. Out! I'm cooking a surprise, so out!"
"You're kicking me out of my own kitchen?"
"Precisely." Ianthe would laugh as she watched her trudge out of the kitchen before resuming in cooking.
"This... is your surprise?" Her mom would laugh quietly looking down at the food Ianthe made. Ianthe would give a light nod, trying to hold back a snicker.
"You kicked me out of my own kitchen just to make eggs and bacon, with a little bit of garnish on top?" Ianthe would then nod again, not helping a snicker as her mom stared at her with the 'are you joking me' face. Ianthe would laugh at her face before covering her head when her mom gave her a playful hit on the top of her head. They'd both laugh before they started eating.
"Well, thank you for the breakfast Ianthe, but now I need to start opening the resturaunt."
"Your welcome." Ianthe would grin before picking up their plates and heading to the back, quickly washing them off before hurriedly leaving, flipping the sign on her way out. Her mom would watch her walk of quickly a little confused as of why she left in a rush before shrugging and heading to the back to quickly make sure everything was ready and Ianthe didn't hide anything since she liked to be ornery and do that sometimes. She'd almost freeze as she spotted a cake on the counter, before proceeding over to look at it, the frosting on top said, "Happy Birthday Mom!" With a little heart. Then a note next to it saying. "Happy Birthday! I'm glad to call you my mom, and thank you for all these years of letting my annoying butt stick around. I saved up my allowance to buy you this cake. (It's chocolate just how you like it) From the bakery around the corner that you said was your favorite. Hope you like it! (See you at lunch) :)" She'd smile lightly, her eyes watering a bit before she heard a bell ding.
"Oh, crap, right..!" She'd mutter under her breath before quickly rushing out to the counter, apologizing to the customer before beginning her day.
