“Break a leg.” Alex smiled softly at me as I walked backstage.
“Break a leg.” Dad texted me as he sat in the audience.
“Break a leg,” Natasha said finishing my makeup.
“Break a leg,” Kevin shouted walking into the auditorium at the last practice.
“Will do.” I chuckled each time. I knew they weren’t wishing harm to me. They would never. Well maybe Kevin would, but that’s beside the point. My boyfriend, dad, best friend, and brother were all using an expression that most knew. They wished me good luck as I was preparing to do the show I had been working towards for months. I was ecstatic as I walked onto the stage. I delivered my lines then climbed the prop tree. Kevin’s character came and shook the tree like he was supposed to. I fell out like I was supposed to. I hit the ground with a thud. That never happened in practice. A sharp pain went through my leg as I tried to get up.
“Where is the mat?” Kevin asked out of character. That’s when it hit me. It hurt because someone forgot the mat I was supposed to land on.
“Good grief.” I groaned as the pain came back. Dad stood up in the audience. “MAXWELL!” He shouted.
“Somebody get my son to a hospital! He has an understudy come on!” The curtains went down. Dominic looked at me like it was his fault.
“I’m sorry.” He mouthed. “Why? What did you do?” I asked out loud.
“I was supposed to put the mat down, but there was a last-minute costume malfunction.” He replied looking down.
“You have a car don’t you Dominic?” I asked, knowing my dad couldn’t drive me because our car was in the shop.
“Yes. Why?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.
“If you give me a ride to the hospital I’ll forgive you,” I said sighing.
“You don’t forgive me?” He asked looking down at me.
“Just please give me a ride to the hospital,” I sighed.
“Okay,” Dominic said, giving me a hand up from the floor. The pain came back. “Ah!” I hissed.
“What happened?!” He asked looking concerned.
“Did you not see me fall?” I asked.
“Oh, right,” he replied walking me to his car. I struggled into the passenger's seat and buckled up.
“I’m still sorry,” Dominic said after a few moments of silence.
“I forgive you. My priority when I said I didn’t was to get to the hospital.” I sighed then hissed in pain.
“Gosh, Jameson I thought you were mad at me.” Dominic sighed.
"I could tell you, dork." I rolled my eyes.
"Do you not remember my last name?" He asked.
"No, no I don't," I admitted. It’s funny how it meant so much to the jocks but I couldn’t care less.
"It's Heroes," Dominic said.
"Dominic Heroes? That's one hell of a name." I chuckled softly.
“Thanks, dude.” Dominic chuckled pulling into the parking lot of the hospital.
“I’ll drop you at the doors of the ER then find somewhere to park,” Dominic said pretty much thinking out loud.
“Dominic, buddy do you not remember why we’re here?” I sighed.
