I shouldn't have attempted to kiss Hermione, Sam said to herself.
After that embarrassing incident, Sam wished she had just evaporated or apparated from the spot. Sam wished she hadn't moved to England. Sam wished she didn't stroll that much in Diagon Alley where she first saw Hermione.
Hermione was avoiding Sam for the rest of the afternoon after the incident. Even today when they were visiting Hogsmeade, Hermione practically stayed two or three persons away from Sam.
I should have known better, Sam said to herself. Why do I always assume that she likes me when she laughs at my jokes or gets red when I give her compliments or when she smiles from ear to ear when she let me hold her hand?
"Sam, are you okay?" Ron suddenly asked as he handed Sam a big glass of Butterbeer. Sam absentmindedly looked up and asked, "What?"
"I asked a minute ago if you have Butterbeer in America," Ron said. They were now in The Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade.
"Yeah, yeah, of course, we do," Sam answered nervously as Hermione glanced at her then quickly looked away. Sam took a nervous sip from the drink.
Sam shouldn't be bothered by what she did yesterday. Hermione shouldn't be too. But it happened. Sam should have known better that this could affect her friendship with them.
The doorbells in the pub chimed. Three girls wearing a Slytherin badge entered and looked at their direction.
Ginny displayed a good glare at them as they approached their table. When they were right behind Sam and Neville, one of them forced a cough. Neville almost spilled his drink and looked nervously at them.
Then one girl with dark hair and a squeaky voice spoke, "This is for you."
It took a moment for Sam to realize that the girl was talking to her and the red letter was pointed at her. "For me?"
The girl nodded then she and her friends left as soon as Sam accepted the red letter.
The letter smelled like roses, Sam thought. So now she knew who the jar of roses was from.
Sam turned the letter in her hands and turned red when she saw a heart-shaped drawing on the back. Sam quickly shoved it inside her jacket.
"Woooah there, Sam," Ron said cheerfully. "You didn't tell us you were in fire with those girls. No wonder why your mind's somewhere else."
"Open it," Luna said enthusiastically. "I bet it's a love letter. I saw them lining up at Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop a while ago."
Sam just shook her head as she nervously drank her Butterbeer.
Okay, so someone liked her. It was not a big deal, Sam thought. Because it was not Hermione. All Sam cared about was Hermione liking her back.
Sam looked at Hermione and Hermione was just reading a flyer from the pub, ignoring the commotion.
"Luna, how come you know her?" Harry asked.
"She's in the same Herbology class as mine. She's really good in Herbology too. Must be probably why her name is Rose."
Then Hermione abruptly stood, "Let's go to Honeydukes next. I'm craving for some Cauldron cakes."

Later that day after dinner, Sam found Hermione in the library doing some reading for next week's classes.
Sam licked her lips nervously as she took a seat beside her, bringing her Potions book and her mother's diary with her.
"Hey," Sam greeted. Hermione had no idea how much Sam misses her.
"Hi," Hermione replied without even looking.
Sam sighed, then she placed her Potions book before her.
"Hermione,..." Sam began, her heartbeat thumping like crazy.
"Yes?"
"About yesterday," Sam said slowly, glancing around the library to make sure no one was eavesdropping. "I hope there's no.... hard feelings... or anything..."
Hermione looked at her with confused expression. Then she chuckled. Forcefully, Sam thought.
"No, it's not a problem..."
"Really? Because I thought you were avoiding me because of that."
"No, certainly not," Hermione answered, going back to her reading.
"So you're not mad?"
"Why would I be?"
"I tried to kiss you-"
"It's not a big deal, okay," Hermione spat.
"Okay."
Sam gave up and went on reading too. As she opened her Potions book, another red envelope from Rose, her Slytherin admirer, popped out.
When did Rose manage to put another letter into my stuff?
"So, you have been keeping her letters, then?" Hermione suddenly asked, surprising Sam. She didn't know Hermione was watching her.
"No, it's... I don't know how she managed to get it into my stuff...," Sam hesitantly replied.
"What did the letter say?"
"Ummm, that's..."
"Confidential? Okay."
"No, I mean. It's basically just nothing..."
"How does it feel?"
"Feel what?"
"Having an admirer here?"
Sam scowled. "I don't even know her."
Hermione stopped asking weird questions and went back to reading. After a short pause, Sam almost jumped from her seat when Hermione stood abruptly beside her.
"I'm going to bed. Have a good night," Hermione announced as she hurriedly scooped all her books into her arms.
And with that, Hermione dashed towards the exit.
